Do you ever find yourself cramming during the last few hours before an important exam or assignment? Perhaps you’re suffering from a mild case of arthritis from researching the internet or typing nonsense without a clear thought? Well, in this process essay I’m about to write, I would like to give you some key points in writing an efficient essay in a short period of time. Please take notice when reading the essay that I am taking my own advice while writing this. I also ask that you have the essential tools before prepping for your paper.
First and foremost, I want to make it clear that a good paper often takes longer than two hours. In fact, as we all know, many papers take days to complete. However life doesn’t always give you enough time for everything. With that being said, let us continue. The first step in writing a decent two-hour paper is to make sure that you are alert and focused. I find that a venti Caramel …show more content…
Macchiato from Starbucks does the trick for me. Perhaps that is not your cup of tea, but I’m sure everybody has their favorite caffeinated beverage. Also, a pen and paper to track your thoughts will come in handy. Find a quiet place to concentrate, such as a library or a study room. This will eliminate any noise or temptation to do anything else besides your paper. Try to minimize all distractions as you are given a limited amount of time, not talent.
Second, you want to pick a topic of choice for your paper. Know it-and know it well! Be sure to write about something that you are familiar with. Remember, there is no time for you to do much research. The topic must be somewhat interesting to you and to the reader as well. Otherwise, your reader will lose interest and the time you spent writing your work will be time worth wasted. In my case, I found myself at many deadlines with my own papers. Due to this, I find that writing a paper on writing papers in short amounts of time is a good example to follow.
Our third step to abide by is to create an outline. This can include any type of diagram, such as a spider diagram or a formal outline. Using this method allows you to form a solid structure for your paper. In your outline, you can separate your thoughts as well as divide up your paper. I’m sure you are fully aware of a paper having three essential parts: an introduction, which includes your thesis statement, the body, and the final conclusive evidence- your conclusion. You want to be able to brainstorm any valid material including facts, opinions, or claims that support your work and your thoughts. Another beneficial aspect in using an outline is creating an order whether it is sequential or chronological. If you actually read this far into my essay, you will notice I use key words such as, First, second, and so on. A sufficient outline provides a guideline to put your thoughts in sequential fashion.
At this point you should be knee deep in your own thoughts and ideas, so do not forget this: Be creative!
It’s your work, so take pride in it. If you have chosen the right topic you should have much to say and be able to avoid writer’s block. Be sure to elaborate, as you are not merely repeating dry, boring facts. A good friend at this time is the thesaurus. Remember this shortcut: shift + F7. I admit it’s a minor substitute for creativity, but it will help you choose the best words to project your message clearly. When referring to the word “creative”, I had the opportunity to replace it with words like innovative, original, imaginative, artistic, inventive, artsy, or productive. When it comes to writing your own paper, the choice lies in your hands. Be sure to emphasize key points with strong words. They don’t have to be ten syllables long, but strong enough to reinforce your statements. Speak in the first person standpoint, not “One might think to speak in this particular
manner.”
Let’s face it. Nobody is perfect. All writers, even the professional ones, need to go back and check their work. My experience is that it’s always best to check your work regularly than to proofread everything when done. Be sure to read each paragraph thoroughly as you complete them. In addition to checking grammar, make sure that the paragraph does a good job of covering your key points and that the flow of the paper is smooth and uniform. Refer back to your outline regularly as you must always be aware of exactly where you are along the process. Reflect all changes in the main paper in the outline as well. Remember, you’re relying on your short-term memory to get you through this, so inspect your work while it’s fresh on your mind.
We’ve already covered the introduction and body. Now we want to move forth to gathering all of our previous evidence to wrap up for the conclusion. The conclusion is a vital portion of your essay. It relies on the other two parts of your paper to make a strong delivery in which may support or contradict your thesis. The thesis was responsible for introducing your reader and briefly acknowledging the topic, as the body built up the case based on the thesis. The conclusion does the job of reiterating your original thoughts. This is the part where you get to play judge. Bear in mind that all the hard work you have done in the past two hours is now at stake. Judge impartially, as the reader will do the same. As you take your last sip and the clock winds down you need to have referred to your original outline numerous times and feel confident that you will expose the reader to the light of your wisdom. If your conclusion makes sense to you it should have the same effect on the reader.
As you take notice from the previous paragraph, I am evidently to the point of my conclusion. As I write this final paragraph I take one more look at the outline, specifically the key points. I have a proper introduction and thesis, stating that it is possible to do a decent paper in two hours. In the body I have covered essential topics that include how to start, what to include, the most effective way to check your work, what the reader expects from the conclusion, and some effective time-saving techniques. I should also mention that so far I have spent just about two hours writing this and that I feel pretty confident about my conclusion. I will read this paper in its entirety one more time and that should complete my essay. So, did I do well? You be the judge.
