Tyawna's Family Case Study
Focus: Tyawna’s family will be able to develop and model adaptive methods to manage depressive moods and make healthy decisions. Ms. Smalls (MHP), Tyawna and Ms. Beaton (MHS) review and sign Tyawna’s Individual Plan of Care (IPOC).
Intervention: MHP review the IPOC goals and interventions in detail with MHS and Tyawna. MHP provide examples of intervention and answer MHS questions. MHP, MHS and Tyawna discuss again Tyawna’s capability to learn new healthy behaviors to change the negative behaviors displayed. MHP and MHS discuss Tyawna’s lack of insight to attend school and complying with the rules. MHP and MHS review possible ways to encourage Tyawna to comply with the rules of the home and community. MHP will provide MHS and Tyawna a copy

When schools are part of the system of care they can help assist when crisis situations arise. When children don’t have the family support at home, it’s hard for them to want to focus on education when they are really focused on when their next meal is going to be or what is going to happen to them when they get home. By providing counseling in schools these children trust their teachers that are there for them day in and day out and they feel comfortable talking with them about situations that are happening at home. The design needs to be carefully planned with high skilled quality staff to maximise opportunity for significant results to occur. According to Eccles and Gootman (2002) programs for youth are more likely to create positive development if positive values and morals are encouraged within relationships. .A sense of belonging is created and there are opportunities to build and develop competence. (Weissberg, Kumpfer, & Seligman, 2003). They also suggest that programs that are developed from a decent theoretical framework as well as a structure that supports the program are more likely to be effective than programs that are not. Although there is no definite rules on how to identify the optimal design, selecting a theoretical based approach is encouraged along with making sure the design is clear with methods, goals and management. Eccles and Gootman (2002) suggest that intervention can be more beneficial when attempts are made to reduce risks that are direct and are combined with efforts to build strengths and protective…
