People develop type 2 when their bodies don’t make insulin or use insulin the proper way. This type of diabetes can develop at any age. Equally important as type 2 diabetes type 1 diabetes can develop in younger adults and children. Type 1 occurs when your body doesn’t make insulin on its own. The reason this happens is because the immune system kills the cell that produce insulin in the pancreas. The first myth that I want to talk about is people saying that diabetes is not a serious disease. Diabetes is a serious disease because it can cause strokes, blindness and kidney failure. Another myth is that if you are overweight then you will automatically have diabetes. This is so not true because you can be overweight and still not have diabetes. What is more, people think that insulin may harm them. Everyone’s body makes insulin so it’s not going to hurt anyone. In addition to insulin, the fourth myth that people think are true is that if you have diabetes then you have to take shots. This is not true there are oral medications, blood sugar meters, insulin pens that people can also use. As a final point, diabetics can have sweets but it’s better for them to eat them in small portions and with a meal so that they will be digested slowly and won’t raise their blood
