The practice of nursing has changed throughout the years since the beginning when Florence Nightingale defined modern nursing. As a professional nurse, we must show competent and skillful behaviors when providing care for our patients. We must practice with dignity, honor, and the desire to relieve and prevent suffering. The purpose of this paper is to discuss how the concepts of teaching and learning, management, communication, and leadership will change and evolve throughout our career as professional nurses. We each can make an impact on each patient that we come into contact with throughout our career by practicing professionally and putting our patients priority’s first.…

The principals I will build my nursing practice on follow my faith and life experiences. I am a Christian and it has played an enormous role in becoming a nurse and I have found it has strengthened my faith to be in school. When I started taking my anatomy classes I was afraid I might question my faith as I learned to think scientifically, but that never happened. The more I learned to admire the awesome human body, the more my faith grew. I felt the same way when I took ethics, but again my faith was renewed.…

I always lived in underserved areas throughout my life. My father and grandfather both were physicians and they became physicians to take care of their community. The community they lived in had no access to medications or medical services. Their life was so miserable that it was very difficult to survive especially if one was poor. I have seen my grandfather and father working very hard to make their community free from any sufferings. My experience of observing the human suffering around me and the inherent talent of connecting myself with human suffering led me to my dream of being a ‘caretaker’/nurse. That was just a beginning.…

Nursing, according to my opinion, is the process of providing care to the sick and infirm. It is a profession within the domain of healthcare in which the practitioner is focussed on providing care to the patients. The core responsibilities of a nurse, other than providing care to the sick, include maintaining the quality of care being provided to the patients and checking the process of whole care delivery. Nursing is a combination of art and science. The reason is that nursing involves all the scientific knowledge along with the feeling to provide care from the heart. Nursing is a process for the nurses and for patients it is a product. Nursing can be taken as a product when it comes to the reputation of the hospital. The process of nursing is a complex one and requires the nurses to utilize many tools along with core concepts of healthcare. Ethics has the highest position in the field of nursing. Nursing involves all the ethical frameworks, and this is because of the interaction level a nurse has with a patient.…

Nursing is a profession that I aspired to be a part of because nurses represent the very core of love, compassion, and caring. When I began working as a Supervisor in a Skilled Nursing Facility, I then developed my personal philosophy and set of values regarding nursing care. “Philosophy is defined as the study of the principles underlying conduct, thought, and the nature of the universe. A simple explanation of philosophy is that it entails a search for meaning in the universe” (Chitty & Black, 2007, p. 319).…
