I decided to major in history to continue the legacy of storytelling that my professors have extended to me. Initially, I intend to teach at the high school level because I believe high school is when a student is most impressionable, seeking to establish the foundation of who they are and what they do to find fulfillment in life. History has helped me improve both in other classes and in different areas in my life, and I wish to do the same for my future students. The legendary nature and reality of historic data complement each other when students study the past. They can learn principles like change over time, sound argumentation and debate, the nature of decisions and actions taken by influential people, assessment of the untold stories, positive or negative outcomes of both good and bad intentions, critical analysis of incredible amounts of data followed by precise explanations of the given information, bringing primary sources into context, etc. While each of these principles can be used directly in the field of history, their application transcends to other career paths as well. I am a leader in both of these places, which requires all the more time, energy, and resources I have to share along with other priorities like school and work. My weeks are spent with restless nights trying maintain a fair amount of commitment to each of these activities. However, I enjoy being involved in all these things, where I can prove hard work and dedication produce success.
