become who I am today. But there is one class that I will take with me forever, World Literature. World Literature teaches us how to look at the past and the present viewpoints of different countries. I learned that in order to succeed you need to think cognitively, and take on tasks on your own. In this class we learned about the two oldest pieces of religious scripture, the Bible and the Koran. I was born and raised a christian and going into the class I was very biased towards the christian viewpoint and didn't want to think about the Koran. But our teacher, Mr. Parson, told us to keep an open mind, and I did just that. After we had finished the Bible and moved on to the Koran I learned that the christian viewpoint and stories are almost identical to those in the Bible. It made me wonder why are Americans, who are mostly christian based, are so scared of the muslims who mostly study the Koran. We are the same people, we come from the same place and have some of the same beliefs of how life came to be. After I realized this it changed my view point of the Muslims and the Koran. And made be think what else or who else are we judging before we really get to know them/it? At Brookville Area I am involved with many activities including; varsity golf, basketball, softball, Med Club, senior class president and yearbook club.
Over my four year athletic career I did my best to represent my school, town, friends and family with the highlest level of sportsmanship and pride. I played a big role in winning the district title in both golf and basketball my freshman year. I individually placed second at districts three years in a row, I broke the school basketball record for most three pointers in a season, game and a career and I hold the record for most homeruns in a softball season. Outside of the athletics I have contributed to the school academically and politically as well. Being the senior class president I have many responsibilities when it comes to raising money and providing the best high school experience for my fellow classmates. Last October, my fellow class officers and I had to make a decision on where our senior trip would take place. In past years this has been a one day trip to Cedar Point Amusement Park, but I was determined to do more for my classmates so I had suggested that we present an overnight trip to the school board. There has not been a overnight trip for a senior class at BHS since 1985.. My officers were very hesitant but I knew that we could make it happen. In January two officers and I went to make history at the school board meeting. We presented our case to the board and after 3 short weeks we gained their approval. We were all so excited, we knew that we had changed the path for not only our class but for many classes to
come. Growing up in a small town like Brookville allows you to really get to know your neighbor and to appreciate each individuals personal values. Eight years ago I met a very special lady, Nicole Cable. Nicole has had a huge impact on my life and even made me question my outlook on life. Nicole is a very upbeat and fun person to be around, if people aren't having fun or laughing, you can guarantee that she will be the first one to get you smiling. Four years ago Nicole was diagnosed with breast cancer, but you would have never guessed it when you would talk to her. She never complained about the pain of chemotherapy, even when she started losing her hair. Nicole never stopped helping people in our community. Whether it was working at her daycare with the young children or volunteering for a local organization, she always said yes even if her cancer was telling her no you can't do that. She is a true inspiration to me. I learned that I should never take a day on earth for granted and to live life to the fullest even when you are going through a hard time and to always have faith, never hang your head low and to never doubt yourself.
Living in Brookville I have learned many things and have met many different people. But only a few classes and a few people have truly left a mark on my life. I hope I have done the same for others at my school and in my community. I will always strive to make a difference in people's lives for as long as I live.
