Robert Kenney Scholarship
For instance, in the spring 2016 semester I volunteered with the American Red Cross and I encouraged other residents to volunteer as a community service program. Another program that I executed was titled, "Can you survive?" The program took place around Halloween, so I included a mysterious theme to make it more entertaining for residents. The program consisted of deadly scenarios (i.e. the zombie apocalypse and a plane crash) to teach residents how to effectively work together. This program, and several of the other educational programs I facilitated, let residents learn in a fun and educational setting. To do this, it is necessary that I continue to maintain my high GPA and remain involved in extracurricular and volunteer services. It can be difficult to balance academic success and manage the financial burden of paying for college, but the Robert T. Kenney scholarship has helped me substantially while at ECSU.
Since my freshman year, I have been able to pay for the required textbooks and materials needed to succeed in several of my classes, which enabled me to focus on what is important; my education. Moreover, the renewal of the Robert T. Kenney scholarship will assist me in paying for my college expenses so I can focus and maintain my academic performance. With the Robert T. Kenney scholarship I can continue to put in my best effort so I can reach my goal of being accepted into graduate school and pursuing a fulfilling career.
To conclude, this academic scholarship is awarded to students, like myself, who are hard workers and strive to be successful similar to the former president, CEO, and Chairman of American Savings Bank, Robert T Kenney, who this scholarship is named after. Like Kenney, I am a child of immigrants and I have also been instilled with the values of hard work and education. I know how difficult it can be to afford a college education, but the Robert T Kenney scholarship has helped me to become involved at ECSU and excel academically.
