Jeanette Juachi, a high school senior, who has been granted admission at Cal State Dominguez Hills; however, with her mother unemployed and her deceased father, she has been left with the burden to meet her annual student obligation. She tirelessly works as a cashier at a supermarket, after her long day at school. The price of tuition has been rapidly increasing over the past few years; therefore, many families are questioning whether college is worth the cost and hassle for those 4 years. While a college degree can lead to a more lucrative and fulfilling career, it can also engender a huge financial burden that can encumber graduates for many years to come.…

Throughout my four years of high school, I have consistently pushed myself beyond my limits and comfort zones in attempt to discover my place in the world. I spent most of first two years discovering who I was as an individual, ultimately manifesting into inspiration for success. I grew out of “fitting in” and decided to turn my life and aspirations towards a greater direction; on this road of discovery, I separated myself from those who valued arrogance and indifference. “Nerd Squad” is what I am a part of today, which is why I am currently confident enough to apply for the National Honors Society Scholarship. I believe I have grown into a tenacious, sympathetic, and joyous young man that the entire school has seen develop, and I am honored…
This has made me become resilient and versatile. With my family’s business background combined with my past experiences regarding adaptation I aspire to be a successful business person in this ever-changing global economic climate. I yearn to work internationally in the field of business and I hope one day I can fulfill this dream. I can envision myself pursuing my aspirations on a UC campus in the future. With the UC system being one of the best public school systems in the world, having a diverse multicultural environment, and being in the IT business state of the world, I believe strongly that I can entrust myself and my future learning right here at…
Ave Maria University is known as a prestigious institution of learning. Each and every young adult has the right to learn. This brings me back to the times when I was given the opportunity and pleasure to mentor grade school students in the sport of baseball. I took this opportunity to not only teach them the fundamentals of the sport, but I was also blessed with learning compassion and patience from these young enthusiastic learners. This opened a door for me to go on to mentoring underprivileged students at the University of Illinois at Chicago campus. This touched me so much that it would be an honor while attending Ave Maria University, to get involved in mentoring and volunteer work on campus and within the community. My academic career choice is aimed at giving back. It would be a privilege to study here, especially for students like myself, whose careers may take them anywhere. A degree with your institution is sure to open doors and opportunities for me, regardless of where I am.…
Tamara Draut, director of the Economic Opportunity Program analyses this issue through personal experience in her essay “The Economic Crunch”. In this essay Draut claims that college is more of a vice than a reward and believes it's the lack of funding that caused this. Meanwhile, Anya Kamenetz, a recent Yale graduate, observes this issue from her own perspective in her essay “Waking Up And Taking…
Many of my friends that I am graduating high school with are planing on staying close to home and going to near by colleges, this is not the case for me. I want to Broaden my horizons, get away from Vermont for a while and spread my wings. I think that Embry-Riddle University would be the perfect school for me to attend. Embry-Riddle offers a high standard of education that I know will prepare me for my adult working life, and lead me to my personal success. Of all my previous career interests and ideas, there is one that has always reoccurred in my brainstorming: commercial aviation. Embry-Riddle can satisfy my hunger to learn about the field and is the key that can unlock not only my chances of achieving my career goals,…
The pillar of scholarship has influenced me since before I was inducted into the National Honor Society. From this pillar I adopted the attitude that every aspect of academics and knowledge requires the full devotion of myself and my time. I have learned that the true value of the pillar of scholarship is to educate individuals of the capabilities and success that only continuous education can provide.…

SF’s mission is twofold. First, to enable students to both acquire practical entrepreneurial experience while creating a college art portfolio by designing saleable Stuyvesant seasonal clothing exclusively for students/alumni and their activities. Secondly, earmarked profits sustain a students’ needs fund as close to 50% of the student body lives at or below the NYC poverty level. While a sustainable fundraising entity had been my goal, SF has provided a realistic platform to practice what I learned in Babson College’s entrepreneurial training program.…
In today's world, a bachelor's degree has become the norm. I recognize that ability to attend Southern Illinois University Carbondale is a great privilege. My family is a tremendous source of inspiration for me. In a time when financial aid was unavailable, my grandfather worked many different jobs to support himself through college. As a boy, he acquainted me with the struggles he faced to attain an education. His fierce determination was what put him through college and law school. My parents, both victims of divorce, were unable to complete their education at a university. Instead, an unexpected miracle would compel them to find work and fulfill certain responsibilities.…
I have a lot of things I’d like to have differently, and i can do a cliche scholarship about change or i can share and elaborate on one of my dreams. I have a reoccurring dream where i go to the corner of a street (usually one that i drive on a lot) and enter a pet store. I walk into the pet store and sometimes it feels like i'm walking on a baggage claim belt. When i finally get into the pet store, it is closed and they throw me in one of those big trash cans because i just want to pet the fish. When i land in the trash can i start falling into a deep deep dark pit of mystery and curiosity. When I land, I land in a fishbowl as a fish. I guess I’m pretty calm about being turned into a fish. I start swimming around the bowl a find things from…

Ambition is important, but having the means to pursue my ambition is essential. A more privileged person may not comprehend the magnitude of scholarships and financial awards to secure educational success, but I do. I do not take this lightly, nor do I take it for granted. I believe that I have worked hard, but even that does not guarantee success. This scholarship will enable me to obtain my degree and begin my dream of being a professional in the medical field.…
