Reflection On The Betances Scholarship

The Betances scholarship is based on the ideals of community service and betterment of the world as a whole. I myself share parallel interests which have been reflected in my activities since high school and even up until present day. In high school I worked for organizations such as Heroes and Cool Kids and Tilly’s Kids. Heroes and Cool Kids is designed for older people like me to empower young children to live a life as leaders. The organization Tilly’s Kids, also provided charity in the form of gifts and clothes during our Christmas VIsit. In college I joined the fraternity Pi Kappa Phi. Through this organization I have been able to support our yet another philanthropy the Ability Experience. This program is Pi Kappa Phi’s national philanthropy
dedicated to the empowerment of the mentally disabled. In which are presented programs that allow them to interact and grow in a comfortable environment. Also associated programs such as “Spread the Word to End the Word” is campaign that danger of using the derogatory form of the word “retarded”. The Ability Experience is one of many charitable activities I purse at Rutgers. My membership into Greek life has enabled me to network to so many other community service programs. I have done charitable work for Eric LeGrande Foundation helping fund spinal cord injury research along with charitable work for Embrace the Kids, a program that helps terminally ill children. All of these programs I join with an open heart and single intention to help those in need. It is inherently part of my nature and why I feel best fit to receive this scholarship. This opportunity will help me be successful and in an improved position to help my community grow and prosper.
