So basically, Ubiquitous Computing is a practice of enhancing the use of computers by making a lot of computers accessible throughout the physical environment but they’re basically invisible.
In other words, it means getting computing off the desktop.
Ubiquitous computing refers to a new genre of computing in which the computer completely permeates the life of the user. First were mainframe computers, which where shared by a lot of people. Right now we’re in the personal computing era, person and machine staring at each other across the desktop, and the next era in computing is ubiquitous computing or the age of calm technology.
Ubicomp is also known as every ware as in every thing, rather just in every place. Every day objeccts, such as new papers, coffee cups, etc. would have processors in them, collecting data and possible allowing us to interactwith it in come wat
Example of an Ubiquitous computer
There are 3 main generic features that ubiquitous computing focuses on, 1 being transparent interfaces, 2 being awareness of contexts, and 3 being Capture experiences.
Interfaces are devices or programs that the user uses to communicate with the computer. There are many different types of interfaces such as graphical interfaces that we see and use everyday (WIMPS- windows, icons, menus and point devices).
Context awareness is the way technology reacts to its computing environment. The ultimate goal of ubiquitous computing is to have context aware devices that a;;ow rapid personalization of their services.
Ubicomp wants to have transparent interfaces to allow the user to really utilize it’s applications hands free. The keyboard and mouse are the most commonly used interfaces and it is the ultimate goal to create flexible interfaces that can provide similar functionality.
