What 3 things did you learn from this article that has given you more insight or understanding about doing business globally? 1) I learned that Foxconn, one of the leading manufacturers for Apple products has been involved with multiple scandals over the year in regards to working their employees over hours and also having children ages 14 and under work without a working permit however they have not been hit with hefty fines.
2) I learned that conditions in manufacturing sites overseas are not beneficial for the employees and that interns are worked extremely hard in China.

3) Big companies feel that they have the ability to hide things from government because they are so successful such as working their staff overtime to fill in staff shortages. Fraudulent business is a lot more common in enterprises overseas.

What 3 questions do you propose for class discussion?

1) Do you believe it is fair for interns to be overworked without extra pay?
2) What do you believe government’s punishment should be on a company such as Foxconn since they have been in the news multiples times in regards to overworking their staff.
3) What age do you believe should be the minimum age to work in a country such as China

One specific case is that of the company Ningbo Beifa, which is the top supplier for pencils and such utilities to Wal-Mart, in which a former employee, Tang, of the company told the writers his story. Tang was the administrator for one of the Beifa plants on the shoreline of China and a Wal-Mart auditor was coming to inspect the factory. His factory had already failed inspection three times. He had gotten a call from a man to help him conceal the labor laws that weren’t being passed. It had worked and the factory passed the inspection. Chinese workers work a tremendous amount of overtime and only make a few dollars a day if they are lucky. Many Chinese companies submit false documentation to cover up the breach in ethics in their factories and towards their workforce. The Chinese government isn’t really doing much to help out the workers either. The economic principles that apply are number 8(a country’s standard of living depends on its ability to produce goods and services) and number 1(people face trade offs). The reason is the low wages lower the standard of living and employer’s face the trade off of having bad working conditions and lying about it and potentially being caught or following the rules and keeping American companies coming to them to buy their products.…

I am a manager of MBI computers in Canada. Like any other computer companies, we have placed our factories abroad for lowing cost. I found that our company is using illegal child labour in dangerous working conditions for our manufacturing line in Mexico through classified documents of MBI computers. On the other side, the cheap labour in Mexican manufacturing facility is necessary for us to compete with the other companies in the whole Canadian market. To consider blowing the whistle or not is not only regarding to the company, but it also very important to myself. As far as I analyze through 4 aspects of view in comprehensive situations: Relativist, Utilitarian, Kantian and Virtue Ethicist.…

Apple Inc. said it found more than a dozen serious violations of labor laws or Apple 's own rules at its suppliers that needed immediate correction. The findings were outlined in a company report on audits of 102 supplier facilities conducted in 2009. That was a year in which questions about the practices of one of Apple 's suppliers came into focus after the suicide of a Chinese worker who held a sensitive job handling iPhones. Along with many other technology companies, Apple, based in Cupertino, Calif., relies…

First, the company’s sole responsibility is to maximize profit within legal constraints. Moving to China was a good decision for the company, they utilized the lower labor and overhead cost in China to get more profits (Sales – Cost = Profits). Moreover, the company would capable to compete in the marketplace, it makes the company become more competitive with lower cost. Second, the company would have gone bankrupt if they had not moved, it would have hurt community anyway. Hiring more people would cost the company more, the company cannot pay the $1500 per month to all labors, thus, they laid off 100 US makers to lower their cost. However, in China, one labor only received $75 per month, it was a pretty low wage compared with US workers. Also, this decision provides jobs to people who are in worse conditions than American workers. It is a good for China to acquire this opportunity; more people can get…
