Humor is a very good source for healing as it can get the persons mind off of stressful problems and instead relax. Bari Newport put comedy into the show to show how helpful it can be. One example of this was how Jess would crack sarcastic comments during the story like when she is talking to the VR Programmer. This sarcasm was very humorous and helped contrast from the serious moments during other parts of the play. The scenes involving the usage of VR was important for the development of the protagonist, because this was a place where she only focused on making herself better. Kelvin defines what it is to be a person who quits at life but is still capable of doing good. He is often chastised by Jess as a loser who relies on the good will of the government and friends to survive. It is true, Kelvin even looks like a loser with his dress and personality often following the “bum” stereotype. This serves as a catalyst for Jess who does not want to see herself in the same situation as Kelvin. Kelvin was more than just a loser though, he seems to till the very end of the play to be very loyal to his friends. One example of this was how Kelvin made Kacie give him money for what she thought was a house flipping program. This draws the ire of Jess and eventually she calls out Kelvin for stealing money from her sister, and then proceeds to attack him. Kelvin, after being attacked by Jess, then explains to her that rather than waste money on an investment plan he wanted to give Kacie a vacation so to free herself from the stresses of home. Here we see that Kelvin does try to do good for others, this really opens up the character to the audience and characters showing that it is not what you look like that defines you, rather it is what you
