Ulta Vs Estee Lauder
After 6 days of investment, my results were that ULTA made me a profit and Estee Lauder lost me money. ULTA gave me a profit of $11.43 and, unfortunately, Estee Lauder gave me a negative balance of $13.80. However, even though I did not make a grand profit, I do believe the articles above are right when stating that these are long term investments. In addition, 6 days is not enough time to my an enormous profit off these companies. This project provided me greater insight into the stock market. I was able to see how fast the numbers change each day. Therefore, stocks can be quite risky. That being, there is an urge to sell your shares as soon as prices go up. Yet, for stocks like ULTA and Estee Lauder is is better to be in the long haul.

Stocks have had an overall trend of increasing. The problem with long term investing is the time period it takes to earn a preferred rate of return. It has been criticized for taking a long period of time the might not be feasible for some investors. Inflation is also a serious threat of long term stocks because it has historically stripped 3.2% a year off the value of money. This can affect what your stocks are worth and decrease your return. I actually earned a negative return on my investments made for long term purposes. I tried to buy stocks that were growing for the purpose of making the largest long term return possible. For the ten weeks I held them, the stocks did not rise as I thought they would. The stocks do have the potential to earn positive returns in the future if held for a longer period of time.…

The two companies I chose to compare were Sephora and Ulta Beauty. Both stores are cosmetic retailers and sell many of the same products. Sephora has been around longer originating in Paris in the year 1970, and opening it 's first U.S store in 1998. Sephora runs approximately 1,300 stores in 27 countries worldwide, with a consistently growing base of over 300 stores across North America. Ulta Beauty was founded in 1990 trying to reach out to women as a place to shop other than department stores and drugstores for their beauty needs. As of 2013, Ulta is operating 576 stores across the span of 46 states. The company has also equipped each of their stores with a full service salon, hoping that women would appreciate the one stop shopping experience. Although both chains have similar product and price points, they possess two very different advertising, promotional and customer service styles and different ways in how they present themselves to the public.…

When investing in a company, the goal is to buy shares at a low price and then sell them at a higher price. Individual stocks may go up or down independent of how “The Market” is doing overall. Stock market indices such as the Dow Jones Average, the NASDAQ, and the Standard and Poors 500 report how “The Market” is doing “on average.” To check the progress of individual stocks, one can look up their price per share on one of the published indices. These are available in the business section of newspapers and on the Internet.…

The current reality in today’s market is that stocks will undergo multiple price change. Even stocks that lose money if held for a year or longer may be very profitable at several times during the year. The future is the only thing that matters. There is no way to know in advance how long a given stock should be held. Over the short term, the behavior of the market is based on enthusiasm, fear, rumors and news. Over the long term, though, it is mainly company earnings that determine whether a stock's price will go…

Coming into this project, I was not really sure how the stock market worked. When I first invested into stocks, I did not know the philosophy of “buy low and sell high.” I thought the complete opposite, so when I bought shares of particular stocks, I bought them when they were high. So I basically started out my project with a big failure. As I was choosing which stocks to invest in, I looked at their six month history on a chart.…

Only time may tell in a stock’s case, depending on what the business is doing, and if they’re constantly selling/creating items for production. It had been thought that Stocks were a “sure thing” to gain money easily. Sitting around and doing seemingly nothing for a couple of days before coming back to check on your investment, only to see that it may be losing value, or steadily but still slowly gaining value. Some even investing their whole life savings into this volatile money-gaining method. Leaving many to be worse off, and poorer than they were in the first place.…
