The reason Uncle Tom's Cabin was written is because it was written in response to the fugitive slave act of 1850. It also caused a big deal in the U.S because it was a contributing factor to the Civil war. The books were used to sway public opinion and realize the horror and immorality of slavery. I chose to speak specifically about the characters because each and every single one of them did pretty amazing things. They each helped contribute to the book Uncle Tom's Cabin which promoted a great sense of moral. One of the characters were Harriet Stowe, she was the author of Uncle Tom's Cabin and had a fine education. She was an abolitionist and best known for her religious family and the novel she wrote. Her father was Reverend Lyman Beecher, and her mother was Roxana Foote Beecher. She had 4 sisters by the names of Mary Foote Beecher, Catharine Beecher, Isabella Beecher Hooker, and Harriet Beecher. She also had 5 brothers which were William Henry Beecher, Edward Beecher, George Beecher, Henry Ward Beecher, and Charles
