It is critical to understand the underserved communities challenges and barriers and other factors that contributed to their situation, family, social and culture. As a future APRN, I will have the advantage of knowing the inner workings of the family while treating patients and providing complete care because I can personally relate to the challenges that face many underserved communities. In addition, I have volunteer experiences working with several Emory University physicians at the Good Samaritan Health Center, Mercy Care and National AIDS Education and Services for Minorities (NAESM) all in Fulton County, Ga. That have furthered my passion for helping those less privileged like myself. Their stories reminds me of my story growing up in Africa, it inspires me to continue my volunteer service, to gain a deeper understanding of how to implement health care to underprivileged populations. My understanding of their needs and being an empathetic listener, I will be in a better position to provide my service as needed to the hurting community at large. I will be able to have a lasting impact on a diverse patient population; much like the nurses back in Africa has had on me growing up in Africa. I long to make a difference in access to healthcare for many disadvantaged populations with my Advance Practice certification. I hope to fulfill my calling of becoming an advance practice nurse that can affect disadvantaged communities and provide complete well-rounded heath care access; I am energetic and excited at the prospect of participating in Nurse Corps program, and welcome the opportunity enthusiastically. I consider it a privilege to give back and serve the underserved
