They may also include culturally diverse populations such as African-Americans, Native American Indians, non-English speakers and people living in rural, isolated areas where they often encounter barriers to accessing healthcare services. They experience inequities in health status and mortality rates because of their less access to preventative services and health providers. I believe that as our population becomes increasingly diverse, it is more important than ever that we encourage more people of all backgrounds to commit to serving in our underserved communities.

Although it does not seem like an especially prestigious profession, without these workers, those people who experience the greatest health disparities in terms of health literacy and access might not have the means or courage to seek the medical advice and resources that they need. Community health workers help to eliminate health disparities and help to build healthier communities from the ground…

As a group, we challenged group bias by discussing the homeless research we had previously encountered. We had all came across viral internet videos of homeless people who were just in the business of loitering and collecting free money for drugs or other unhealthy activities. But, Chris brought up a very strong point he said “Well at the end of the day it doesn't matter because no human being deserves to be out in the cold without proper layering. We just will choose not give money instead give them resources that will make a difference in the long term”…

In some ways, it's somewhat easy for most of us to become a citizen of the United States. But in the past, it was another story. For example, colonists from Britain grew weary of British oppression over the years. The settlers wanted independence from Britain and right to be there own citizen, they paid their taxes and were fairly obedient at one point, yet over many years colonists denied The Natives, African Americans, Women, etc of their rights as a citizen. The European settlers oppressed minorities as authorities oppressed them in the past, is it a subconscious attempt to remain superior, or did they know what they were doing?…

Despite major advances in the fields of medicine and healthcare services over the past years, a significant health gap between rich and poor remains. The medical profession can respond to healthcare disparities in several ways. In my opinion, their strongest methods in doing so are through education, volunteering, fundraisers, and community cohesion efforts.
