Outcome 1- Understand anatomy and physiology in relation to moving and positioning individuals 1. The anatomy and physiology are important in relation to the correct moving and positioning of individuals as the anatomy is the physical structure of the body and the physiology is the functions of the body. When working with people with limited or reduced mobility, care workers must be aware that client’s movements may be slower and more difficult, with muscles becoming weak and floppy. Therefore care workers must remember to only move bones at joints. An example of this would be the hip joints, they have limited movement and to try and move it beyond its range can cause damage and pain to the client. Types of joints throughout the human body include hinge joints i.e. The knee or elbow that can straighten and bend, pivot joints i.e. neck allows movement from side to side, saddle joints i.e. thumb allow a back and forth and side to side movement and ball and socket joints i.e. the shoulder and hip are the freest moving joints as they are the most flexible. Pulling or dragging clients without a hoist or the correct equipment can cause serious damage to these joints. Our muscles are attached to the …show more content…
Legislation affects working practices relating to moving and positioning individuals as it creates a responsibility on the employer and the employees when moving individuals. The manual handling operations and regulations 1992 create duties on employer, self-employed people and employees. They ensure that employees avoid manual handling when they are able to do so. If it is necessary to use manual handling then employers must assess the risks related to the task, the working environment, the load and the ability of the carer. The health and safety at work act 1974 makes it a legal requirement for employers to ensure the health and safety of their employees and that there employees have a duty to ensure reasonable care, health and safety of themselves and
