Explain the physical, social and emotional signs that may signify that a child is being maltreated or abused. Signs may or not prove that maltreatment or abuse is occurring however awareness of the signs and symptoms needs to be clearly understood
P3 Explain the factors that would lead to suspicion of child maltreatment or abuse
Within health and social care settings where children and young people are concerned, it is important to know the different types of maltreatment, the risks of maltreatment and the indicators of maltreatment which may suggest other conclusions.
The different types of maltreatment which can occur within families can be abuse, which can also range from being physical, emotional, intellectual or sexual abuse; neglect; bulling and harassment. Physical abuse is simply when the parents choose to severely hit and bruise their child for all sorts of reasons and ends up as a long term act of behaviour, where it constantly happens on a regular basis. Emotional abuse is when things are said to the person who can mentally damage them, for example telling your child something which can make them feel bad about themselves and it can lead to disorders such as anxiety or depression if it continues. It can also be when the parents choose to restrict the child’s freedom, by making them unable to see certain people or making them feel jealous about events which they should have no emotions for.
