There are many avenues that the fire service can utilize to reduce the injuries, deaths, cost and risks that fire poses to firefighters and those in the community. Among these numerous avenues that are at the fire service’s disposal, in my opinion, the most effective is the presence of fire suppression systems in homes. With that being said, I’m in support of requiring the installation of fire sprinklers in homes, for while there may be an initial financial hit, there are far more pros than cons; such as reducing injury, death and cost of fires.

In my opinion, while this tool undoubtedly has saved countless civilian lives, it can do just as much to protect the lives of firefighters. Furthermore, since this is the case, I think that it is a disgrace that there are so many still opposed to the mandate of residential fire suppression systems being installed in homes—for when we use greed to be our motivators, we can only blame ourselves for the resulting deaths and injuries that continue to occur because we refuse to do something about this problem. As we all know, as long as there are human beings on this earth, there will be fires; so why aren’t we utilizing all of the available resources to prevent and reduce death and injuries to civilians and firefighters?
Furthermore, no longer can we use ignorance as an excuse for not taking a greater stand in favor of fire suppression systems being used in residences, for the research is endless on this topic and so is the buzz surrounding it.
