United Nations Celebration
To our beloved principal, Mr. Robert E. Guttierrez, my fellow teachers, students, visitors, everyone, a very pleasant afternoon to all of us. On this 31st day of October 2014, we are gathered altogether here in this place to celebrate a very special day for the world, especially those countries that are members to this organization including the Philippines. And this is called, the UN or the United Nations.
The United Nations Organization was founded: first, to maintain international peace and security; second, to develop friendly relations among nation; third, to achieve international co-operation in solving international problems, and lasly to become a centre for Harmonizing the actions of nations in the attainment in these common ends.
But nowadays, we are living through a period of profound confusion, transition and transformation. Insecurity, inequality and intolerance are spreading. Global and national institutions are being put to the test. With so much at stake, the United Nations must keep pace across the difference of its activities – peace, development, human rights, the rule of law, the empowerment of the world’s women and youth.
The United Nations is not just a meeting place for diplomats. It is a peacekeeper disarming fighters, a health worker distributing medicine, a relief team aiding refugees, a human rights expert helping deliver justice. Furthermore, no single leader, country or institution can do everything. But each of us, in our own way, can do something.
On this United Nations Celebration, let us reaffirm our individual commitment and our collective resolve to live up to the ideals of the United Nations and build a better world for all.
Days from now, the human family will welcome its seven billionth member. Some say our planet is too crowded. But we are seven billion strong. The world has made remarkable progress since the United Nation. We are living longer. More of our children survive. More and more of us live at peace, under democratic

The united nations, a union of countries founded in 1948 have strived to achieve rights for all of civilisation through the ‘Universal Declaration of Human Rights’, over the course of its founding it has achieved this goal in substantial ways, allowing for individual freedom and liberty of children previously enslaved, discriminated and stripped of rights. According to Hass (2008), the second charter of the United Nations after peace promotions is human rights. ( Vandersluis and Yerous in Kegley 2007, p.220) state that “ the universalist claim, that all human beings have the same moral status; to accept universal human rights the moral demand to respect the life, integrity, well-being and flourishing of all human beings”. This was the general idea when the declaration of human rights was created. Violence, racial and gender discrimination, child abuse, religion and immigration laws are now governed by these laws. This has encouraged peace and development across the globe.…

It is a position of delegation, whereby Ban must challenge those Member States with disagreeing views and speak and act for peace during times of warfare and risk. Last week, on September 8th 2014, Ban expressed his thoughts on the Responsibility to Protect: “The world faces a series of conflicts that feature acts that shock the global conscience... Turning a blind eye to these acts is no longer tenable.” The United Nations was established in October 1945 to promote international co-operation, human rights, advancing social and economic development, humanitarian aid in deprivation, natural disaster and armed conflict, largely based on the prevention of another conflict similar to the Second World War.…

The UN under the guise of being peacekeepers, have used their position to drive chaos and fear; ergo, the UN is a criminal organization (e.g., human trafficking, corruption, terror). UN peacekeepers are essentially free to get away with terrible crimes because they know this jurisdictional gap provides them with impunity. I am of the opinion, that it would behoove the United States to defund specific UN departments and organizations; ergo, the UN needs to quit treating D.C. as a sugar daddy. They have outlived their once useful purpose and now resort to an entrenched, complicit role with corruption and terror. The UN argues that they are all we have and if this is the case, then it is time to employ changes. It is time to awaken from our…

The United Nations is an international organization that fights for world peace, and strives to control international law, international security, economic development, social progress, and human rights. In the United Nation’s preamble, it states the organization is “determined to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war…” and “…to promote social progress and better standards of life in larger freedom.” However, the U.N. can often be ineffective and it has been an ongoing debate between the world’s leaders whether or not intervention is justified when inhumane acts are committed in foreign lands. Too many human beings have been victims of violence, rape and/or other crimes on the U.N.’s watch all because the organization is not authorized to forcefully intervene in another country. The United Nations Security Council is responsible for preserving peace between nations and even within nations, and when a nation is committing atrocious acts against its citizens, the U.N. and other nations should have the right to intervene militarily to end those abuses.…

The United Nations is a body that was set up at the end of WWII to maintain peace and security amongst states. The UN is the successor to what was the League of Nations. The League of Nations, set up after WWI by President Wilson, had a similar goal to that of the UN's. To maintain peace and security, and at the time, attempt to prevent another World War. This of course was not achieved.…

As the nations of the world increase their interdependence of one another there will be an increasing need for a multinational body to act as peacekeepers, protectors & negotiators WITHOUT becoming world police. The key to the UN's power is that it is made up of 99% of the worlds governments. The actions and motivations of the UN are firmly based on their Declaration of human rights which is the first document to receive multinational support for laying down the rights believed to be owed to each and every human being.…

A large number of people would suggest that the United Nations is a failure overall. They would say that it has not done anything to help people and it does not enforce its own laws and mandates. Those who feel the United Nations has failed base their opinion on what they see in the news—most notably the recent “failures” of Peace Keeping Missions in Rwanda, Sudan, Congo, Angola and Myanmar. It is hard to ignore the issues that the UN has faced over the years and it would be naive to say it was a complete success. However, that is not to say it is not a success at all. If a student fails one exam in a single class, does that mean they are failing out of the University? Or if a student fails a single class, is all else lost? No, not at all. The UN has its problems but overall it has proven to be incredibly successful.…

As the most representative inter-governmental organization in the world today, the United Nations' role in global affairs is irreplaceable by any other international or regional organizations. In matters relating to peace and security, the United Nations is the principal international body and [their] collective security is the most predominant, and primarily the concern of this organisation (Wallensteen, 2007: 220). It’s dominance in such affairs is second to none, and whilst the only other comparable institution would be the European Union’s Council of Ministers, it doesn’t enjoy a large enough mandate on foreign affairs and defence issues to be an equivalent (Wallensteen, 2007: 222). Central to the work of the United Nations is peacebuilding in Post-conflict states, however, as we will come to see, the…
