Among the three stories, there are many similarities. The first similarity is that two of the stories narrators are scared of the Jackboots. For example in “The Guard” the narrator kept his/her head down and make no contact with the guard. The narrator was also terrified of the guard that was standing in front of the gate because of the rumors she has heard about the Jackboots. Also In the story “Until Then I Had Only Read These Things In Books” the narrator is hiding somewhere from the Jackboots scared and does not want them to find him/her. This shows that these narrators are scared of the Jackboots because the narrators are scared because for example one of the author's heart was racing. One difference is how they feel about the Jackboots. For example, in “The Guard” and in “Until Them I Had Only Read These Things In Books” the narrator is not really happy too see/ hear the Jackboots. However, from the book Milkweed the character Misha is very excited and happy to see the Jackboots. In fact Misha was so happy to see them, he thought them entering Warsaw was a parade! This shows how the narrator's we're happy or scared to see the Jackboots. Another difference is that how the narrator's responded to the Jackboots. For example, the narrator from “The Guard” made no contact to the guard and just walked past the guard. In Milkweed however Misha makes contact, talks and interacts with the guard. Also in “Until Now I Had Only Read These Things In Books” the narrator makes no contact and does not interact. This shows how the narrators and the Jackboots interact which could make a big difference between these
