Chinese Tiger Moms versus American Values
Today people have different cultures, a lot of different meanings and a lot of different views on how to raise a child. People from America have a more causal view opposite people from China. In China people are used to a stricter upbringing. All over the world, people are different and have different opinions about how a child shut be raised.
As mentioned above, People from America have a more causal view opposite people from China. Parenting in China is mostly very strict, and these Asian children are mostly become very successful in school and in the business.
An example of strict parenting is able to find in the very notorious book “Chinese Tiger Moms” by Amy Chua. It is a very controversial book, where Amy Chua explains how she raised her children “the Chinese way” in America. It’s about a mom who raises her children and afterwards become the Tiger mom.
Amy Chua’s children were not allowed to watch TV or play Computer games. They were also not allowed to have play dates or sleepovers. They also had to play violin or Piano. If Amy Chua’s children said “they could not do something”, Amy Chua command, them to do it until they were very good at it. In school they were not allowed to get a grade under “A”, and if that happened it would be considered as a bad grade and they will get a punishment. Amy Chua calls this Chinese style parenting. If you look at the success rate of Chinese students compared to American students the Chinese wins by lengths. This is a result of years of pressure and rote learning
Is that kind of raising a child fair to the children? In Canada they have a term for this kind of parenting, is called psychological abuse. What has become of their childhood, if they are not allowed to do anything other than their homework?
In America people do, of course want their children to become successful like all parents, but the children have more individual freedom. An
