Uun Abdullah's Political Leadership: Tuun Dr. Mahathir
After the retirement of Tun Dr. Mahathir, Tun Abdullah continued his legacy for a few years with his own approaches. A leader requires legitimacy in his leadership during his time of being in power in order to form a mind set among his people and supporters to realise and understand their obligation to have the utmost loyalty to their leader (Weber, 1964). ‘Political legitimacy is seen as ‘a general acceptance by the public upon the political system’ (Lipset, 1963), without influence from differences of opinion which places the trust of moral rights to lead, as averred by Muthiah Alagappa (1995), relies on several factors. Firstly, the history of power structure inherited by the relationship between the government and the people places strong …show more content…
There were a lot of differences in political leadership during his time, in addition, his political leadership is totally different with Tun Dr. Mahathir’s political leadership. Sivamurugan Pandian, Rusdi Omar &Mohd Azizuddin, again said in their journal, ‘according to Tun Abdullah, the changes made in his rudiments of the government under his administration relied on facts and figures-‘…what needs to be changed what needs to be adjusted, all those are done based on facts and figures that we have taken into consideration’ (New Straits Times, 2006)’ (SivamuruganPandian,Rusdi Omar &MohdAzizuddin, 2010). ‘The changes were made in an inclusive, low-key style that is perhaps even more distinctive from Dr. Mahathir’s hard-hitting approach than are the actual activities.’ (Welsh, 2005). Some scholars agree that Tun Abdullah’s administration was weak, ‘…his administration was soon criticised for being weak, lacking in focus and direction.’ (KhadijahMd Khalid, 2009). ‘Ethnic relations worsened because the Abdullah administration has reverted to promoting and protecting Malay Agenda and the Islamisation of society.’ (Lee Hock Guan, …show more content…
Mahathir’s approaches. The motto of Islam Hadhari was ‘Cemerlang, Gemilang & Terbilang’. Islam Hadhari was launched on 23 September 2004 and the objective of Islam Hadhari was to guide development efforts in Malaysia and the wider Islamic world. Islam Hadhari also focused on human capital development as a key pillar of his administration. In Islam Hadhari, Tun Abdullah brought up the Halal issue, which was related in OIC. Minister of Prime Minister’s Department in a report , Datuk Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said, ‘…the cabinet decided to streamline halal operations, which until now had been handled by two separated bodies, the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) and Ministry of International Trade & Industry (MiTi).’ (Hamid, 2008) . Regarding to this report, he also said that Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) acknowledged that Malaysia was in Halal hub and Malaysia also the only one country that was recognized by OIC with the halal

Contrary to popular belief, women have had a significant yet unacknowledged impact in the development of this world. Many great authors have brought this issue to light with various publications, but none quite like Howard Handelman and Joseph N. Weatherby in The Challenge of Third World Development and The Other World respectively. In chapters 5 and 4 titled Women And Development of these publications, Handelman and Weatherby respectively, explore the unnoticed impact women have had in developing the world, the challenges they have faced trying to do so and how much as well as in which sector of a nation have they had the most impact. In this paper, I am going to explore these issues with Handelman and Weatherby as well as give you my thoughts on the arguments they make regarding this topic as well as test the validity of these arguments in real world scenarios. So, without further ado, let us jump into these chapters.…

In conclusion, although the theory of power was published some time ago, the theory still holds today as the basic skeleton for defining and identifying the types of authority and the relationship between power and legitimacy. The theory of power has set forth the three basic tenets of pure power: traditional, charismatic, and legal-rational. More often than not, these principles are intertwined with each other and leaders and governments often show all three characteristics…

    1. President Pervez Musharraf said during his address to OIC head of state meeting in Malaysia that a restructuring of the OIC was necessary to "evolve a strategy to secure justice" for Muslim nations. He further added that the Ummah could boast of a combined GNP of $1400 billion while Japan alone had a GNP of $4500 billion; the Ummah had only 500 universities and produced 1000 PhDs a year while Japan had more than 9000 universities and tiny England produced 2000 PhDs annually. The idea was supported by Indonesian President Megawati Sukarnoputri, who told that the Islamic world needed to reassess its priorities and embark on "concrete action." Malaysia’s outgoing Prime Minister added in the same meeting that Muslims built a great civilization but halfway through "came new interpreters of Islam who taught that acquisition of knowledge by the Muslims meant only the study of Islamic theology. The study of science, medicine etc. was discouraged. Intellectually the Muslims began to regress".…

First of all, power is such a tool that it makes individuals egocentric. The standard of living brought by power for its bearer is hard to quit. Most of the time powerful individuals enjoy pleasures of life which are the by-product of the power they hold and to enjoy the same pleasures of life, powerful individuals use measures and policies which benefit only the powerful people. For example, the budget of President House in Pakistan was set at Rs. 482.63 million for the fiscal year 2011-2012. President Asif Ali Zardari’s salary was Rs. 1 million. Besides other expenses, entertainment and gifts allowances were set at Rs. 15.8 million. Rs. 24.63 million were apportioned just for the conveyance and motor car expenses of the Prime Minister’s Secretariat and that is covers only 2.08% of the total budget of Prime Minister’s Secretariat i.e. Rs. 1.18 billion (Ali, Kalbe. "Areas That Matter Most."). These statistics shows that the life enjoyed by powerful politicians and rulers is beyond the scope of an ordinary person, principally because of the income that is generated due to position of authority. So after coming into power these individuals try to make money which would ensure the same living standard once they lose their power. The policies they formulate are for their own interest and not for the…
