Totalitarian governments control many aspects of the citizens’ lives. Early on in the movie, speakers were placed all around blocks, announcements were made about curfews. There was only a single station that broadcast most of the news and entertainment. However, it was all scripted. Many people became ill from a mysterious disease, water prices were rising, and riots was forming. During the period after the French and Indian War, the British government was in serious debt. They began raising taxes the colonists; similar to the totalitarian government raising the water prices. However, the twist was that the water prices and the diseases were all planned out. All part of an elaborate scheme to get the Norsefire party to power. Of course, several people began to revolt in the movie and in America.
