Vaccinations and Children
There is much debate and controversy about child vaccinations being safe or not. Parents wonder should they get

their children vaccinated and take the risk of their child having a side effect. While some experts say that vaccinations are

safe, others say that vaccinations are deadly.

Approximately 100 years ago children received 1 vaccine, smallpox. About 40 years ago children received 5

vaccines, diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, smallpox and polio. Today a child receives 52 vaccines, 15 of these shots are by the

age of 16 months (http://tuberose.com). By the time another 100 years go by it is possible that our children will receive

double the amount of vaccinations of today which would put children receiving about 100 shots or more. I couldn’t imagine

giving my children that many shots especially sense most people do not know exactly what are in these vaccines.

Vaccines are made up of toxic chemicals like MSG, aluminum, formaldehyde, sucrose, phenoxyethanol (antifreeze)

And thimerosal (mercury). Thimerosal is nearly 50% mercury. Mercury is a neurotoxin with a EPA safe level of .01

micrograms per 1 kilogram bodyweight per day. A simple trip to the pedestrians and your child could get injected with high

levels of mercury up to 62.5 micrograms a visit because vaccines contain 12.5 to 25 micrograms of mercury. Vaccines that

are not properly mixed well will cause an increase of mercury for the children who receive the last couple or shots from the

vial ( http://tuberose.com). My theory is, you would not break a thermometer and let your child eat the mercury, then why are

we as parents letting doctors inject our children with vaccines with high doses of mercury in them especially when we have

all heard about mercury poisoning and side effects.

“If children receive all recommended vaccines, they will receive 2,370 times the “allowable safe limit” for mercury in the first two years of life (as if there is such

Children begin being vaccinated against harmful diseases at birth. Vaccinations are administered throughout the United States in hospitals, doctor’s offices, and health departments. Vaccinations provide protection to children and adults from many devastating viruses and bacteria. A majority of parents vaccinate their children as recommended but some parents are choosing not to vaccinate their children because they believe them to be harmful. These parents believe that they should be able to choose to have their children vaccinated or not. While vaccines may have some risk, and while vaccines should not be forced upon parents by law, it is still a better idea to vaccinate your child than to choose not to.…

As a parent my main concern is my childrens health. There has been an increased interest in vaccine safety over the past decade as opposed to the 1980’s. There has been many successful results from vaccines. The introduction and widespread use of vaccines have profoundly affected the occurrence of several infectious diseases. For example smallpox has been eliminated with the last naturally occurring case in 1977, and the vaccination against smallpox stopped. Poliomyelitis is another disease near elimination with a the last case occurring in 1979. Vaccinating your children and yourself is important, because of the existing continuous threats of…

One of the controversial/hot topics or issues nowadays in health care in the US and the world as a whole is vaccination. The main purpose of vaccines is to control and prevent communicable diseases. The target is to vaccinate about 99 percent of the population. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), “about 1.5 million children under age 5 years continue to die annually from diseases that are preventable via the administration of vaccines, making up approximately 20 percent of overall childhood mortality” (Maternal and Child Health, n.d). The WHO continues to argue with evidence that vaccination can prevent death from pneumonia and diarrhea which are the leading cost of death among children under five years old. Although vaccination…

The M.M.R, vaccine is given in two doses. There has been some talk on whether there should be a third dose given but the CDC has not clarified this to be efficient. “In 2011, more than 220 people become infected with measles” (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2015). Many parents are hesitant due to the fear of their child developing autism. Their concerns are related to the thimerosal, which is 49.6% ethyl mercury by weight, which is a preservative they believe to be a link to autism (Uno, Uchiyama, Kurosawa, Aleksic, & Ozaki, 2014, p. 2516). There have been multiple studies conducted which revealed out of 95,272 children only about one percent, which is 994 children were diagnosed on the autism spectrum (Autism Speaks, 2015). Even with evidence showing that the M.M.R is not linked to autism parents still fear the…

Many parents fear that allowing their child to be vaccinated can and/or will cause harm. One undisputed fact is that vaccines are not considered 100 percent safe. According to the CDC (2014), all vaccines carry a risk of a life-threatening allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) in about one per million children. The ingredients in some vaccines are not found naturally, such as thimerosal which is mercury based (Smith & Bouck, 2009). Some people are against the fact that vaccines are presented as being compulsory, but exemptions are allowed in most states. Natural immunity lasts longer, whereas as vaccine may not last a lifetime and boosters may be required. It is important for parents to ask questions and stay informed. Parents are entitled to know what they are giving their children. What is a possible solution to the…

Both the articles “Vaccines and Autism: A Tale of Shifting Hypotheses” by Jeffery Gerber and Paul Offit and “Autism and Vaccines” by Carol Polovoy focus on factual claims and flaws in studies conducted about the correlation between autism and the preservative, Thimerosal, found in vaccinations. Thimerosal is a 50% ethylmercury antibacterial compound that has been used in vaccine preparations for more than 50 years (Gerber, Orfitt 458). Before the US Food and Drug Association mandated the Modernization Act, in which identification and quantification of mercury in all food and drugs was established, it is believed that infants could have been receiving as much as 187.5ug of mercury within the first 6 months of life. In1999, after the Modernization Act was put into effect, all vaccines were required to have any trace of mercury removed. Parents took this as a sign that Thimerosal caused Autism, and a world-wide movement of fear towards vaccinations began. The first speculated link of Thimerosal to autism is mentioned in Gerber and Orfit’s article, and was discovered by British gastroenterologist Dr. Andrew…

The fight against vaccines has become controversial however arguments against mass immunization should be evaluated so that a good understanding of this controversy can be had. There are three main arguments against the mass immunization of children and babies. Firstly, It is argued that vaccinations can have harmful side effects on children. Secondly, it is argued that laws requiring mandatory vaccinations infringe upon an individual’s liberty and freedom of choice; and finally, mass immunizations a law, violates religious freedom. According to Omer et al (2009) approximately 69% of parents are more concerned that vaccines could cause harm to the health of their young children than they are with the other issues. The CDC does, in fact, publish that vaccines may have side effects for example a reaction to the varicella vaccine can range from a rash to a severe infection (CDC, 2010). No specific evidence exist, however, to support the claim that vaccines predispose children to other disease such as type 1…

First of all, the inventions of vaccines can prevent some diseases in the childhood. In 1960, the health authorities recommend the kids to get five vaccines—smallpox, diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough and polio. The first time a child is exposed to a disease, the immune system can’t create antibodies quickly enough to keep…

In the United States, vaccinations are given as soon as a child is born. The vaccine schedule for the United States has doubled since the 1970’s. A Child will be given twenty-six shots by six months old if the parent follows the vaccination schedule. “Currently, the majority of American children are given 33 doses of 10 different vaccines by the time they reach age five” (Blevins 99). A Medical theory for vaccinations is that one’s child is exposed to weakened versions of diseases or bacteria and he/she will produce antibodies to that disease and become immune, so that he/she will never catch the illness.…

One of the concerns that has arisen throughout the years is the link between Autism and vaccines. Some of the ingredients of the vaccines seem to have some rather questionable ingredients, one of which being thimerosal. Thimerosal is used as a preservative in vaccines, which prevents germs and bacteria from growing in the vaccine, if there was bacteria in the vaccine it could cause illness and could even cause death. People are worried about thimerosal because it has mercury in it, however the CDC says we should not worry, “Some types of mercury, like mercury in some kinds of fish, stay in the human body and can make people sick. Thimerosal is a different kind of mercury. It doesn’t stay in the body, and is unlikely to make us sick” (CDC par.2.) It has been proved to be safe, and throughout much testing there has been no link between thimerosal and autism. As of 2001 thimerosal has been removed from all childhood vaccines except from the flu vaccination, however upon request there is doses with no thimerosal if that is a concern. Another concern people have is the adding of adjuvants to vaccines. Adjuvants are used to ensure that the body creates an immunity to the disease. Some of the adjuvants put into vaccines in the United States contain aluminium. Aluminium is found naturally in air, water, and in our food, however the addition of adjuvants into vaccines has people…
