The Continental Army was in the control of George Washington. General Washington was brilliant in devising plans and attacks. However to make General Washington’s plans and attacks successful he needed men. Not just any men, he needed men that were loyal, brave, and willing to fight. But these men were a lot more difficult to find than you’d think. Quitting would be sensible if you didn’t want to risk your life at Valley Forge. But General Washington needed men desperately.
Usually when people tend to quit the Continental Army they think about their lives safety and the chances of them coming out alive. The conditions at Valley Forge were horrendous (Doc. C). There was freezing weather and very poor quality food (Doc. C). The soldiers are very poorly clothed and malnourished (Doc. C). The soldiers needed protein and lots of it but there was just one problem, there was no meat (Doc. C). Diseases and illnesses were spreading throughout Valley Forge, resulting in hundreds to thousands of deaths (Doc. A).
Even though I’ve decided to quit the Continental Army, if I would have stayed then the benefit would have been pleasing General Washington’s wishes for more soldiers staying. He needed loyal patriots. Being a summer soldier or a sunshine patriot was showing your cowardness (Doc. D). Only staying when things are great and leaving when things are bad (Doc. D). As much as I want to be in the Continental Army I do not want to risk my life.
George Washington needed soldiers. Unfortunately I was not able to fulfill his needs. The conditions at Valley Forge were horrible, freezing weather, poor food, and diseases left and right (Doc. C). I’m not the soldier that General Washington is looking for, I’m too afraid of losing my life. Even though I may sound cowardly, I’d rather be alive then
