Valley Forge Would You Have Quit
Valley Forge: Would you have quit?

When I hear the question Valley Forge: would you have quit? The first thing I think of is how hard it had to be. Not only did some people die from various things, but people were getting very ill and sick. Even though this all sounds bad plus the other things the Continental Army had to go through I still would have stayed at Valley Forge to fight through it all for my country.

There are many reasons to stay and fight for the Continental Army and for the country's freedom from the British. My biggest reason would be the need General George Washington had for soldiers. After one year people would leave and abandon Washington and the army. Another reason to stay was to stop the British from commanding

This kept happening and was setting the Continental Army back, having to train people continuously isn't good for fighting and didn't help the army in the battle against the British. The British controlled us and we decided it was time to take control and fight for our freedom. In the Hook Exercise: Valley Forge prices for butter, potatoes, and veal were shown the British obviously had more money to offer, the British had more supplies to start with, was richer, and had more clothes to keep warm. All of these things showed to the others in Philadelphia and outside of Philadelphia that the British were superior and had advantages, at first people were rooting for the Continental army and now people have lost faith in us. Some of our supporters in Philadelphia started to welcome the British and some women even developed “scarlet fever” . The living conditions were horrible smoke in the huts, there wasn't enough food, sickness and death were starting to take a toll on

The leadership of the army knew this would be the case, which is the main reason that the terms of enlistment were so short during the war unlike the minimal 8 years contract in the army now. Although the life in the army improved the soldiers had to endure such environment as, “shivering with cold upon bare floors without a blanket to cover them, calling for fire, for water, for suitable food, and for medicines- calling in vain.” Having to withstand all these misfortune, the soldiers were anything but humble in their conception of rights. The soldiers warned the generals of desertion if they were not properly taken care of, so the “severest Punishment” was placed to counter threat the soldiers. However, this did not last as “even in Washington’s handpicked Life Guard, eight soldiers deserted during the war.” As the war dragged out, eventually, Washington reopened the Continental army to free blacks with congressional approval. Slaves were still forbidden, yet five hundred free black men served in the war. It started with Massachusetts than to Rhode Island. Even with the blacks joining, Mother Nature did not see lightly of them, “By early 1778, the regiments were close to disintegration, their pay in arrears,…

One aspect of this is the inadequate clothing the troops had. One fifth of them had no shoes, and going barefoot in the dead of winter would not have been any fun. (Doc. F) All their other clothes were tattered and did not compensate for the cold temperatures in any way. (Doc. C) The quality of the food and the air inside the cabins was lousy as well. The very little food that could be obtained at Valley Forge was undoubtedly contaminated from all the diseases. The sad excuse for a ventilation system inside the soldiers’ cabins was poor and insufficient, and this probably didn’t help the health issues that close to half of the men already had. (Doc. C) Walking away from the American army did mean that I would only lessen the chances that I would get what I joined the military to find. But between the frostbite-inducing lack of proper clothing, shortage of safe-to-eat food, and smoke inhalation, there would have been enough dangers to make me think twice before…

There have been many illnesses and deaths at the camp of Valley of Forge. Soldiers are deciding whether they should stay or leave the camp, but if it were my choice, I would leave. For example in The Diary of Dr. Waldo “Doc C” he states that the soldiers are suffering from starvation and they are feeding off of just water and flour. Also, in their huts there is no ventilation and they have to breathe smoke most of the time. In Dr. Waldo’s point of view, they have been sent there to freeze and starve. To add on, in the Estimate of Illness and Death “Doc A” there has been an illness going around and it has been killing people. Almost 50% of the soldiers had died out of 8,000 people. High risk of death is one of the main reasons I would want to…

If I had a chance to quit the war I would, because of of how everything was. The condition of the war was bad. People were getting disease and getting sick and dying. people were starving to death, didn’t have clothing, places to sleep, barely had any weapons, and didn't have that much gun powder, also the British had more money and more supplies than the the Americans did.…

The first reason I would quit is because the British were considered the strongest army in the world. In Document A, ‘The Numbers’, it clearly shows that by the end of February, there were only 8,000 soldiers at Valley Forge, half of them ill. An army of 4,000 healthy soldiers, the rest ill, fighting off a strong army of tens of thousands of healthy, well fed soldiers has terrible odds for the Patriots. Yes, the British lost the war, but at the time, no one knew that! France ended up helping, but they knew that in April. Odds of the odds turning to my favor are slim, like one out of a million. If I'm smart, I'd already be out of Valley Forge.…

The first and foremost reason I would not have stayed at Valley Forge is the ridiculous sickness and death rates. There were an estimated 4,000 sick soldiers by February 1st, 1778. Furthermore, the death tolls were around 2000-2500 from sickness alone. This means that an average of roughly 750 soldiers died every MONTH from disease. That's more than most major battles in the Revolution. The sickness was spread quickly due to close living quarters as well. That brings us to my second reason for quitting.…

In conclusion the men at Valley Forge took a stand against the British Continental army, defeated the British continental army while having very meager resources, George Washington helped in many ways for winning the war by making battle plans and making sure his troops had clothing, Von Steuben trained the troops to be better marksmen, trained them so they followed orders even if they disliked them, and so they had more discipline. The men at Valley Forge also faced many hardships during the winter such as being underfed, being poorly dressed, and facing smallpox, typhoid fever and other diseases. About 2,000 men died that winter because of these causes. Thank your reading my essay on Valley Forge and how they took a stand against the British Continental…

Yes,I would have quite after completing Valley forge. Valley Forge was a military camp Valley Forge was a military can't just 18 miles northwest of Philadelphia. It's where American Continental Army spent their winter of 1777 through 1778 during the American Revolutionary War. Some reasons I would have quit was because the Continental Army was low on food, clothing, equipment, and other supplies. Soldiers had food eat for a while but in December through February soldiers ran really low on food and started eating dry meat and anything in their source.…

Valley forge was a winter camp that the continental army had to camp in for several months. The camp was low on supplies and very cold and miserable. If I had the choice I think I would stay at Valley Forge. (Doc A) One reason i would stay at Valley forge is that the chance of even getting sick was around 50%. out of the 12,000 only 2 out of 10 people would actually die at Valley Forge from starvation, frostbite, or disease. (Doc C) Another reason I would stay is from the diary of Dr. Albigence Waldo. Even though there was a lot of negative things that would go against my claim there were some reasons to stay. in the journal it talks about a soldier staying in the camp but he is sick, he has no shoes, and…

So you are talking about some soldiers having 8 or 9 fingers instead of 10 because of frostbite or some soldiers having 8 or 9 toes because of frostbite as well. I mean you read or hear about Valley Forge and you are probably going to have no soldiers. I am guessing that over half of the soldiers left after all of the things they went through including sickness and diseases probably would or did leave the Continental Army and did not even second guess their decision. So far in this essay I have been giving you all the bad things the Continental Army went through. The main reason I would stay is if I would be lucky enough to not get sick or get a disease and would have the people I liked in the same hut as me it would not be that bad.…

Due to the number of sickness and death in the camp I realize that I need to keep fighting. It is February 1, 1778 and about one-half of Washington’s army are sick (Doc A) During the winter, between 1800 and 2500 have died as a result of illness. (Doc A). Many soldiers also have ripped clothing and no shoes. (Doc 3). I could have reconsidered as to being part of the army because my parents need a lot of help on the burden for the farm and to say the truth the numbers of death are sky high. Also the conditions for the army seem to worsen year by year. Yet I chose to reenlist because helping my team can help me.…
