Vanderhoof: A Short Story

The future was very different. People transported in quadrapods and didn’t go hungry anymore. It was a happy life, except for a guy named Vanderhoof, who was in jail.
Vanderhoof was powerful. Everyone worried that one day he would break out of jail, and he did, one sunny hot day in the spring of 3059.
Dianna was on her way home from school when she saw him. She ran home as fast as she could. She opened the door of her house and ran in to tell her mom. Only her older brother, Calvin, was home. Dianna asked Calvin, “Where is Mom?”
He said, “She is at the grocery store. Why do you ask?”
Dianna exclaimed, “I saw Vanderhoof!”
Calvin said, “What? Let’s call the police.” He telephoned the police and they arrived shortly.
The first thing that the police did was call Dianna and Calvin’s mom. She arrived quickly.
Dianna’s mom told Dianna and Calvin to hide in their bedrooms. Dianna’s mom quickly called the radio and television station to make the announcement to “Hide in your house!” Dianna’s mom paused for a second to breathe and then quickly went up to the kitchen to prepare a snack.
While she was putting jam on her sandwich, there was a knock on the door. She hurried and looked through the peep hole. She saw her friend Christy with her three children. She opened the door and shouted, “Haven’t you heard? Vanderhoof has escaped! Run to your house and hide!” Christy paused, then hurried off with her three
