Vasco Da Gama
Vasco da Gama is a famous explorer from Sines,portugal. His date of birth isn't confirmed but it is guessed that he was born around 1460. Vasco was born in a wealthy family with power , so from the start he had a great opportunity to become great. Being from a wealthy family with great connections he was able to get an excellent education. He became extremely talented when it came to math and navigating. Vasco joined the navy as soon as he could the skills that he learned from school made him very successful. In 1492 vasco was given an order by King John II to seize french ships in retaliation for the french attacks on portuguese ships(1of4). Vasco was proving himself, so when his father was originally appointed the task to find a direct

On July 8,1497 he took four ships and left for lisbon coast for the voyage around africa to asia (1 of 4).These voyages were extremely important to portugal because this was the first step at becoming maritime and colonial power ( facts and bio 1). As any voyage in these times , Vasco’s crew were exposed to diseases and they had scurvy, this and many things that delayed his voyage. During Da gama's voyage he made many enemies with the africans and arabs. Vasco and his crew pretended to be muslim sailors in order to be appointed a sultan that agreed to help them sail across the indian ocean ( 2 of 4 ). Shortly after him and his crew lied they were .5then found out by two indian slaves. When they were caught in their lie, a fight broke out between the portuguese and muslims , and then the portuguese were ordered to leave ( 2 of 4).
It was so bad to the point where the indians offered the hindus money to attack vasco and his crew when they arrived. Vasco was later praised by the portugals for his voyages , but both indian and african people considered him a tyrant.
