Pedro Álvares Cabral lived from c. 1467-1520. During his lifetime he made an expedition to India, but ended up discovering a new land in the process. He was born in Belmonte, Portugal, and was the son of respected nobles, in turn receiving many privileges from King Manuel I of Portugal, such as being made one of his counselors. This is how he got involved in exploration- King Manuel chose him to lead an expedition to the coast of southern India. The king made him the captain of a fleet of 13 ships and 1,200 men- they would take Vasco da Gama's route to India in order to establish trading posts there. Hoping to strengthen trade between Portugal and India, Cabral and his crew set sail from the port of Libson on March 9th, 1500.…
Cabeza de Vaca was a Spanish explorer of the New World. Cabeza de Vaca was the second in command of Panfilo de Narvaez’s five-ship, 600-man expedition to Florida. In my opinion Cabeza de Vaca was an acceptable leader.…
Vasco da Gama was born around 1460 in Sines, Portugal. Vasco’s father was a knight and an explorer. When he was old enough he decided to join the navy, where he was taught how to navigate. Vasco later followed in his father’s footsteps and began to command ships in the king’s name. Little is known about his early life but, in 1492, Vasco solidified his reputation as a sailor when King John II of Portugal sent him to Lisbon and the Algarve to seize French ships as a sign of vengeance against the French government for disrupting Portuguese shipping.…

Since he did that he opened the sea route to asia via the Atlantic and Indian oceans. Bartolomeu Dias was sent in this voyage to reach two main purposes, first to reach and find a new rout to India and China, and second to reach and discover, when did Africa end towards South. Dias was a very perseverant man that always wanted to discover new routes and new parts of the world. De Vaca accomplished the impossible, he walked day and night along with his men all the way through America making it to Mexico. He discovered Mexico after eight years of suffering and walking from Florida all through America. His ships were wrecked thus ending in his men drifting apart, this happened more than once. In the end the only survivors were De Vaca and three of his men, with persistence and hard work they made it to Mexico. The characteristic I admire the most about De Vaca is that through though or good times he never gave up on his expedition and kept and optimistic view. How often do you find a man so determined to get what he wants he walks for eight years of his life , not knowing what was ahead of him everyday?…

Vasco da Gama was a great communicator. He needs to communicate with other sailors when they’re on board a ship. He also needed to communicate with workers that are involved in the voyage. Setting a voyage is really challenging, a lot of people needed to be involved. A lot of explorers have communication skills. Vasco da Gama wasn’t really principled. He killed hundreds of innocent Muslims that were heading back from Mecca. I think that he did this for his religion, but he used to much force. Vasco da Gama was definitely a risk taker. Sailing to the unknown ocean is really challenging. A voyage has many dangers, piracies, storms, tsunamis, whirlpool, etc. In some places, the king demanded gold. If you didn’t have gold, the king would capture…

In March 1505, at the age of 25, Magellan enlisted in the fleet of 22 ships sent to host D. Francisco de Almeida as the first viceroy of Portuguese India. Although his name does not appear in the chronicles, it is known that he remained there eight years, in Goa, Cochin and Quilon. He participated in several battles, including the battle of Cannanore in 1506, where he was wounded. In 1509 he fought in the battle of Diu[4] and later sailed under Diogo Lopes de Sequeira in the first Portuguese embassy to Malacca, with Francisco Serrão, his friend and possibly cousin.[5] In September, after arriving at Malacca, the expedition fell victim to a conspiracy ending in retreat.
