I appreciate her optimism and enthusiasm, but there are many flaws to what she is saying. For one, she states that we should increase the number of hours that we spend playing video games; she claims that video this will bring out the best in them. If so, why are those that are addicted to video games lacking the traits that Jane describes? Why aren’t they helping to save the world at this very moment? Though it is nice to believe in such a thing, it just isn’t that simple. Sadly, the virtual world is nothing like the real world, that is why many gamers choose to play video games, to escape from the reality. In a game, you have an element of control, but in the real world, that aspect of control isn’t there. In a game, things are predictable, but the real world is not. Life can be comparable to that of a jigsaw puzzle. For those that are fortunate, there are very few pieces to “win the game”. Then there are those who have many scattered pieces to fit together. With work, dedication and a bit of luck, the game can be won, but there are those who have a jigsaw puzzles which have pieces that don’t even match with one another, making it impossible to win. That is what makes reality so harsh, unforgiving and cold. That is what makes an epic win so epic, because so rarely does one achieve such a thing. Take for example the internet. It is a tool that holds much of the world’s information at our fingertips, yet many of us are captivated by non-sense such as cat videos, or what celebrities are up to. We must be wary of consuming content mindlessly, because doing so could spell our doom. If we collaborate with one another using such a revolutionary tool, further advancements can be made and so much more can be done. Jane believes that thought becomes reality, and so do I.
