Language can come in handy when searching for higher paying jobs. When employers see that people seeking jobs can speak more than one language, they realize that you can communicate with a wider range of people. Understanding other cultures can expand your comprehension of the world and shine light to new perspectives. When I was younger I used to be able to understand and speak Vietnamese as a result it lead to me to become closer to my family. Since Vietnamese is a dominant language in my family, rarely do I get a chance to really talk to anyone in my family. Ever since I lost my second language it feels as if I'm not even apart of my culture.
The United States as we know it today has the largest number of diverse citizens in the world. In order for us to keep the diversity from becoming segregated we need to be able to communicate with each other. It's very frustrating and difficult to try and talk to someone speaking a different language. With that being said we often then lose the opportunity to meet new people.
