The Vietnam War: Who was the Real Winner?
The Vietnam War was one of the first and biggest losses by the American military. The VC or Vietcong defeated many American soldiers by using their extreme methods and war tactics. Booby traps, underground rat tunnels, and guerrilla warfare were a few ways the VC and the North Vietnamese Army defeated the United States. The weapons used by the NVA and VC were also more powerful and effective than the American weapons. Camouflage used by the Vietnamese was more concealing and outsmarted the United States soldiers as well. The North Vietnamese community helped and supported their country by doing anything they were asked like leaving villages so the NVA could stay there. The perfect environment and war tactics used by the NVA ultimately won the war for Vietnam and sent the Americans back home abruptly.
The Vietcong and North Vietnamese Army were the two main fighting groups for the Vietnamese people. The NVA was a more organized army that was controlled more by the government. The VC was a militia group that used guerrilla warfare fighting tactics and was not an official part of the NVA. The NVA was the normal army for the communist government of North Vietnam. Both groups were very effective against the American army, however the Vietcong instilled more fear in the Americans due to the sneaky and surprising attacks that could come at any time and any place. The title of Vietcong was originally thought to be a derogatory term which was incorrect. The name is actually a Vietnamese term meaning communist viet. The original spelling is Việt cộng. This term was used by the American army as a code word for the enemy. The Americans also nicknamed the Vietcong, Victor Charlie. The NVA never officially recognized the VC but fought alongside of them. The VC also had some Southern Vietnamese in their militia. They were the ones who fought against the South Vietnamese
