The kings of vijaynagar built numerous magnificent places, temples and gardens. They constructed structures for irrigation and water supply. The VITHALA TEMPLE is dedicated to Lord Vishnu (also known as Vithala). The capital of the kingdom was HAMPI. The VITTALASWAMI, THE VIRUPAKSHA TEMPLE AND THE HAZARA RAMA TEMPLE are the fine specimens of temple architecture under the vijaynagar rulers. Art
During the vijaynagar era, the wall paintings were the famous of all. The best representation of these paintings can be seen in Virabhara temple at Lepakshi. The artists used a distinctive style. Paintings in this period reached a high degree of excellence. The walls of many temples were covered with paintings depicting scenes from Hindu mythology. Some of these vijaynagar paintings depict the scenes of Draupadi`s wedding and Arjuna`s penance. Most of these Vijaynagar paintings depict that mythological legends of Siva and stories from the epics and they also represent the life and customs of the Vijaynagar Empire
Literature
The Vijayanagar period was the golden age of Telugu literature. Vemana wrote Satakas, moral and social poems that became colloquial Telugu phrases. The Bagavat Geeta was translated in this period by Bammera Potana. Annamacharya wrote hundreds of kritanas in praise of Lord Venkateswara of Tirupati. The books composed in this period were: 1. Marutratcharitra was written by Rachakonda and Deva Raya II of Vijayanagara 2. Bhogini Dhandaka and VirabhadraVijaya were written by Bammera Potana 3. Varahapuranamu and Prabodhacandrodaya were written by Mallayya and Singayya 4. Rayavachakamu was written by Vishvanatha Nayani
