Vincent van Gogh was an artist Ahead of his time creating paintings with interesting brushstroke that no one of his era was familiar with. Van Goph had a unique view of the world and thus had a unique art style. This made van Goph painting undesirable to those living in his active era.…
Impressionism started out in Paris around the 1860's, it is often referred to as one of the first modern painting movements. It started in Europe but quickly caught on and spread to the United States. The painting that started the movement was a painting by Claude Monet, Impressionism: Sunrise, this particular piece by Monet, was the first of its kind. This new style of painting allowed the artists to take their work outdoors, this allowed them to create more realistic landscapes and actually experience many of the elements they were trying to portray. Impressionist paintings put an emphasis on the visual sensations and were a more accurate portrait of what the artist was actually seeing and experiencing. Different painting techniques…
Another point of conflict between the painting and critics was the specificities of the scene painted. The maid pictured in the painting is presenting the courtesan with a bouquet of flowers, presumably offered to her as a gift from a client. Even though this situation was not uncommon, for it to be portrayed in mainstream art by one of the pre-eminent artists of the era was very controversial. I believe that this was one of the most important steps towards the evolution of art towards impressionism. This is because one of the most crucial aspects of impressionist art is the movement away from photorealistic paintings of shapes and scenes, and towards the depiction of contemporary situations and activities. To me, Olympia presents a complex…
Vincent van Gogh was born on March 30, 1853 in Zundert, Netherlands. He is the son of Theodorus Van Gogh, an extremely pious clergyman in the Dutch Reformed Community, and Anna Cornelia Carbentus. Van Gogh had five siblings named Theo, Wil, Cor, Elizabeth Duqesne, and Anna Cornelia. Theodorus and Anna's first child, who was supposed to be named Vincent van Gogh, was stillborn on March 30, 1852. Exactly one year later, the couple had another child, whom they also named Vincent. This Vincent went on to be one of the most influential characters in all of art history. Growing up, Theo was Vincent's best friend and favorite family member. Wil was Vincent's favorite sister and later in her life, she experienced many of the same psychological problems…
Here is an image. I do consider the following picture art because of its elements and formats, its influence from the Northern Renaissance, its significance to the Impressionism Movement, and its similarities to the Egyptian movement.…
Impressionism was developed in Paris during the 1860s by artists who rejected the official salons and were consequently shunned by the most powerful art institutions. By turning away from dated ideals, the Impressionists aimed to capture the sensory effects of the scene – the impression objects made in an instant. In the similar way the Impressionists did, my self-portrait demonstrates short, broken strokes that convey forms. In addition, there are few, pure colors used while emphasizing the effects of light. The loose pencil strokes give an effect of spontaneity that contradicts any carefully constructed composition, much like the Impressionists. Furthermore, the two-dimensionality of my form is reminiscent of the flat figures in Impressionist…

To me, art means the expression of one’s creative skills or how one expresses themselves and their true feelings. Art produced at the present point in time is called contemporary art, which is also known art modern art. Edouard Manet was considered to be the beginning of modern art and James Pollock was considered to be the end. These two artists do differ with their works of art but they are both great artists.…
During Van Goghs stay in the asylum at Saint- Remy, he devoted himself entirely to his artwork calling it the 'lightening conductor for his illness' he believed that painting was the only thing that kept him from loosing his sanity.…
Alex, it’s really cool we share the same name (my full name is Alexander) and interest in Van Gogh! What are some of your favorite pieces by him? It’s really amazing you work with ceramics. I’ve tried a few times, but they didn’t quite end up what I was imagining them to be. As Vincent Van Gogh once said tho, “What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything?” I love Starbucks, so I’m a huge coffee drinker too.…

To contrast something is to look for differences among two or more elements, but compare is to do the opposite, to look for similarities. When comparing and contrast you will discover that there is several differences and similarities that make each work of art unique and diverse in its own way. One can be able to compare and contrast the artist to whom created the composition. All composition do not consist of the same things it can vary from color, mass, size, and shape. In addition the form, balance, background space, and value can all be not the same. Not just visible things can depart from one another also the overall feel and mood of the piece of art.…
Vincent Van Gogh, genius or madman? ‘The connection between genius and mental illness is paradoxically both clearer and murkier than that between genius and high intelligence.’ (Published on March 31, 2011, Andrew Robinson) Van Gogh, possibly the most famous example of a known genius who beared the title of a mentally ill individual, had severe depression, inflicted serious injury on his own earlobe in the year of 1888, admitted himself to a mental facility, and shot himself in 1890, yet he is one of the most respected and well known men of our time, all because of his unmistakable and ingenious art work. Van Gogh 's recurrent mental derangements were never in suspicion, not by himself nor his family. However, his sanity was never questioned…
Aspects of all the avant-garde movements contributed to the emergence of expressionism. Expressionism refers to art that is the result of the artist’s unique inner or personal vision that often has an emotional dimension. This contrasts with art focused on the visual description of the empirical world. This was a rejection of Renaissance sensibilities that had governed the western art world for the previous 500 years.…
Vincent van Gogh was a Dutch post-impressionist painter, whose work represents the archetype of expressionism, the idea of emotional spontaneity in painting. Van Gogh was born March 30, 1853, in Groot-Zundert, son of a Dutch Protestant pastor. Van Gogh's birth came one year to the day after his mother gave birth to a first, stillborn child; also named Vincent. There has been much speculation about Vincent van Gogh suffering later psychological trauma as a result of being a "replacement child" and having a deceased brother with the same name and same birth date. Early in life, he displayed a moody, restless character that was to spoil his every pursuit. This theory remains unproven, however, and there is no actual historical evidence to support it.…
