Violence In The Outsiders Research Paper

In literature, there are two main types of violence. The first type of violence is a specific injury that characters bring upon themselves or upon other characters. The second is general harm brought on by the author, rather than the characters, to advance the plot or theme. In The Outsiders, we read about two groups, the “socs” and the “greasers”. These two groups come from opposite sides of town and continuously kill and stab each other out of anger. It takes a couple of deaths from loved ones to make them realize that killing each other is insane. They no longer kill one another due to their great losses from both sides. In A Walk to Remember, we read about Jaime, a young girl who develops leukemia. The author kills Jaime off due to
the sickness she has developed while she fell in love with Landon, the school player. This is a good example of the second type of violence because after Jaime’s death, the author uses Landon’s character as someone who learns from his mistakes and changes his old ways for his own well-being.
