Virtual Lab: Treating Water
I enjoyed doing the virtual lab. I treat water as an occupation so I understood how and what to add to treat the water. If you have a low (acidic) pH then you should add sodium hydroxide. If you have total coliforms, you should chlorinate before and after treatment. Often, we test houses for total coliforms and e. coli. If the bacteria is positive, then we chlorinate the well. After we make sure all the chlorine is throughout the house, we let it sit for 24 hours to disinfect the pipes and the well. Then we flush the system so there is no more chlorine and resample the bacteria. If you have high nitrates or pesticides, then you should activate carbon and chlorinate at the end. If you have high metals, then you should add chlorine at

After performing each lab I have a much better understanding on what is expected and how to carry our future labs. I learned measuring techniques and although there is much room for improvement on my part, I think I have a good sense of what to expect and how to appropriately calculate my experimentations. The lab that I struggled with the most was the one represented in Table 9. I found the calculation of molarity to be a little confusing. I had a hard time producing results on this particular lab. I continued to redo it in attempt to get the correct calculations. I hope that I can take with me into future lab assignments the tools and know how to produce successful labs and results.…
