Virtubot Monologue
Drip, drip, drip. One by one beads of sweat rushed off my face and found their way to the cold floor of the waiting room. For 105,120 hours, 4,380 days, or 12 years we had anticipated this day, and we sat anxiously in the sterile waiting room of the Nova Institution for Genetically Modified Babies (NOVA) while the blank walls stared back at us. Disrupting the deafening silence of the room, the quiet muffle of a holovision displayed news of unexpected lightning storms later that day, but little did we care, for this day held our future in its hands.
“Mr. and Mrs. Lynch?” called the VirtuBot. Hearing this snapped us both back to reality as we hurried to respond to her question, still ringing in our ears.
“Yes?” I replied.
“Right this way please.”
We followed the VirtuBot like shadows, eager to start our appointment. Suddenly, the VirtuBot abruptly halted, signaling for us to enter a spacious room. We cautiously stepped through the doorway while a mysterious voice boomed, “Welcome, Mr. and Mrs. Lynch. Congratulations! You are one of the 15 selected couples to virtually enhance your offspring to any degree of your liking here at this institution. All further instructions will be displayed on the screen of your NanoDesign. Sincerely, The Director.”
It took us a moment to comprehend the surreal fact

My caressing father chased after her saying, “Mable, calm down, it was an accident; nothing will happen to her.” As I stood there confused, 5 minutes passed, 10, then 15, so I decided to go up to my room to clear my head. Sadly, life has never been easy for me. My parents, Mable and Peter O’Connell found me stranded in the abandoned NOVA institute. They took me in, a baby on the verge of death; raised me as their own. There was only one thing that set me apart from all of the other ‘humans’, and it was my gift. My mom and dad told me the world was filled with dangers, since many people wanted my gift:

For now though the cock that he was interested in putting between his lips was the large organ of Danny. He got down onto his knees and leaned forward as Danny reached inside his boxers and took his thick 7 inch prong out of the opening. He held it lightly in his hand and let it stand up right in front of Trevon’s rugged face. Danny was circumcised tightly and his cock head flared out wide with a very defined crown ridge.…

The bitter night Avah was killed the whole town was out celebrating. The Spring Festival was an annual affair and only the most isolated of persons would have not been there. It was a festival meticulously planned out by those intrigued in such matters and each detail was carried out to exact perfection. The Humphrey family would perform a skit each year at exactly six-thirty, the mayor would grace the audience with a well-planned speech at six-forty-five. At seven o’clock the potluck dessert would be brought out by the women and then once a half hour had passed, enough time for the people to converse with each other, the festival games would begin.…

I grew up with a Game Boy Color in my hands. No matter where I went, I always had the “Grape Purple” device loaded with any Pokemon game. My favorite was a copy of the Crystal version I bought with my allowance from a friend’s garage sale. He had failed to mention that the game didn’t save, but I fell in love with the whole experience of choosing a new starter that I just played it over and over again unbothered. It was the first time I had felt like I’d been transported to another world, and encountered the transcendental idea of fantasy.…

Genetic modification is becoming closer and closer to an everyday possibility. With this possibility comes a whirlwind of possible effects, both positive and negative. There has been a history of opposition towards these technologies, oftentimes because of fear that the capabilities would be abused. However, the potential that newborns could be born free of hereditary diseases outweighs the fear of “designer babies”.…

In the recent decades, the field of human genetic engineering has become one of the major areas in science and is now advancing more rapidly than ever before. I. Attention Getter: The ability to customize the things exactly the way we want is a luxury that has become quite common in today’s world. Designing a purse, clothes, a car, those are some of the everyday objects that we can change to our liking. What if I told you that this ability to design is not only limited to material items. What if I told you that you could design your child exactly as you wanted? Everyday babies with birth defects are born. Despite the many technological and medical advances humans have made, there is still no exact guarantee that a child will be born healthy. Many companies out there are conducting research that allows them to access an embryo’s genetic material and find out what genetic traits the child will inherit. According to the Food and Drug Administration one such company, called 23andme, has been awarded a patent that allows them to exclusively sell this research to everyday people so that they may find out how their baby will turn out.…

Designer babies are children who have their DNA programmed by their parents before birth. It is a new concept to be able to select the genetic blueprint of a child, and “[t]he speed at which these technologies are being developed and applied has led many policymakers and stakeholders to express concern about whether appropriate systems are in place to govern these technologies” (Designer). By discussing how technology is developing faster than society can learn to cope with it, this statement alludes to the fact that this scientific discovery can easily lose regulation. The loss of control over biotechnology can cause extensive issues for society to deal with. Furthermore, all members of society must work together to stay on top of it to ensure that science continues to provide more benefits than repercussions.…

There is a belief that many people share and that is that no one’s genes, be that of an unborn child, should be altered without his/her permission. It has been an unspoken truth that messing around with a person’s natural characteristics and way of being would end in a disastrous way that could affect our society. Since 1987, about 25 years ago, scientists have been stressing that very point. They stated that they would not interfere or alter the natural characteristics of a patient’s unborn child. But that all changed when in 1997 the first genetically engineered child was born. The means of how this child was born could shape the way our society thinks and, eventually, divide us. For these very reasons, Designer Babies should only be created…

One beautiful, quiet Saturday night in September I was tossing and turning in bed which is quite surprising for me. I didn’t think too much about it and eventually I managed to drift off to sleep. Little did I know that this would be one of the last nights I considered myself a kid and that in the next twelve hours I would be thrown unexpectedly into adulthood. When I was woken by my mom gently shaking me awake, my groggy eyes noticed she was accompanied by my brother and my dad. A very unexpected occurrence. My brain didn’t have time to process what was going on before my mom hugged me and said, with a choked voice, that my best friend Marquis had died. With those words, my youth was terminated.…
