Vocal Cords Research Paper
The vocal folds, which are commonly known as the vocal cords, are located inside the larynx and control the air amount that flows from the lungs during phonation. They are composed of two folds of mucous membrane and stretch horizontally across the larynx.
The vocal folds open during respiration to allow air out of the lungs. They close when speaking, so air exiting the lungs is then pressed between them to cause vibrations and create sound.

As mammals our aerobic metabolic system requires oxygen for us to sustain life. The organ that transports oxygen from the environment into the body where it is needed, are the lungs. Oxygen is transported through cellular respiration from the lungs to tissues and organs. Between 2,100 to 2,400 gallons of air is breathed to fuel 2,400 gallons of blood that is pumped into the heart. Respiration is controlled by the medulla oblongata, which deals with the autonomic function of breathing. This characteristic allows one to breathe without having to think about the process but can also be overridden and controlled in certain situations. As a result of respiration, carbon dioxide is produced where it is removed for oxygen to be restored. The purpose…

Sound vibrations from the buzzing bee vibrate the air molecules as pressure waves around my ear and enter the auricle which is cone-shaped in order to direct these sound waves into the ear via the external acoustic meatus. The sound waves reach the tympanic membrane through the external acoustic meatus and cause it to vibrate. When the tympanic membrane moves, it causes the auditory ossicles to move. The auditory ossicles are made up of the malleus, incus, and stapes. These ossicles are important…

Sound waves enters through your ear and travels through a narrow passage called ear canal, which then leads to your ear drums. Then the ear drums vibrate from the incoming sound waves and sends these sound vibrations to your three tiny bones called malleus, incus, and stapes. When the sound vibration hits the fluid movement in the cochlea of the inner ear. An elastic partition goes through the cochlea, which starts from the beginning of the cochlea to the end. After this, it goes into two different directions, upper part and lower part. The partition is called basilar membrane. Following that, the vibrations causes the fluid to ripple a travelling wave which forms along…

The vocal folds are two bands of smooth muscle tissue located in the larynx (voice box). The larynx is located in the neck at the top of the trachea (windpipe). Vocal folds produce the sound of your voice by vibration and the air passing through the folds from the lungs. The sound the vocal folds produce is then sent through the throat, nose, and mouth, giving the sound "resonance." The sound of each individual voice is determined by the size and shape of the vocal cords and the size and shape of the throat, nose, and mouth (the resonating cavities).…

Many people would like to make a difference, not only in their own life, but in others’ lives as well. Deepak Chopra once said, “Everyone has a purpose in life…a unique gift or special talent to give to others. And when we blend this unique talent with service to others, we experience the ecstasy and exultation of our own spirit, which is the ultimate goal of all goals.” All of us, at one point in our lives, have to make the difficult decision of the goals we want to work towards. We all have certain goals, standards, and expectations of ourselves. Not everyone will figure out what they want to be right away, and some will know from the very beginning.
