2.1 Previous research in voice Controlled Robot
Researches in the area of robotics are still going on. Several studies have been done to better understand the voice controlled robot. Worldwide investment in industrial robots up 19% in 2003. In first half of 2004, orders for robots were up another 18% to the highest level ever recorded. Worldwide growth in the period 2004-2007 forecast at an average annual rate of about 7%. Over 600,000household robots in use - several millions in the next few years. UNECE issues its 2004 World Robotics survey. From the above press release we can easily realize that household (service) robots getting popular. Kannan, Dr. J. Selvakumar in which they design a walking robot which is controlled by servo motors. When any commands are given on the transmitter, the EasyVR module will take the voice commands and convert the voice commands into digital signals. Then these digital signals are transmitted via ZIGBEE module to the robot. On the receiver side the other ZIGBEE module receives the command from the transmitter side and then performs the respective operations. Addition to this there is camera which is mounted in the head of the robot will give live transmission and recording of the area. They also show disadvantages like If there is noise or some other sound in the room (e.g. the television or a kettle boiling), the number of errors will increase, It works best if the microphone is close to the user. This research work has been narrowed down to short range zigbee module. Using a long range modules will result in connectivity with the robot for long distances. Power Optimization such sleep and wakeup schedules can be incorporated. Image processing can be implemented in the robot to detect the color and the objects. This technology is getting matured day by day and scientists are still working hard to overcome the remaining limitation. Now a days it is introducing many important areas (like - in the field of Aerospace where the training and operational demands on the crew have significantly increased with the proliferation of technology, in the Operation Theater as a surgeon’s aid to control lights, cameras, pumps and equipment by simple voice commands) in the social context. Voice recognition is the process of converting a signal, captured by microphone or a telephone, to a set of words. There are two important parts in voice Recognition - i) Recognize the series of sound and ii) Identified the word from the sound. This recognition technique depends also on many parameters - Speaking Mode, Speaking Style, Speaker Enrollment, Size of the Vocabulary, Language Model, Perplexity, Transducer etc. There are two types of Speak Mode for Voice recognition system - one word at a time (isolated-word speech) and continuous speech. Depending on the speaker enrolment, the Voice recognition system can also divide - Speaker dependent and Speaker independent system.     A Text-To-Speech (TTS) synthesizer is a computer-based system that should be able to read any text aloud, whether it was directly introduced in the computer by an operator or scanned and submitted to an Optical Character Recognition (OCR) system. There is a fundamental difference between the system we are about to discuss here and any other talking machine (as a cassette-player for example) in the sense that we are interested in the automatic production of new sentences.     At present most speech synthesis systems use raw text as their input which is understandable from a human point of view but problematic for the machines since the process of converting text to speech is very complex; in this paper we discuss the need for having a specific SSML tag for each “mention” (1st occurrence, 2nd occurrence) of a proper noun in the text or paragraph. We discuss that when a proper noun appears first time in the text, then it is spoken more prominently than its second or third or subsequent occurrence. We highlight the need for incorporating a specific tag in SSML to take care of this mention-case. The SSML format is a compromise between human and machine needs. SSML is often embedded in Voice-XML scripts to drive interactive telephony systems. However, it also may be used alone, such as for creating audio books. The advantage that SSML brings is that the designers of such language generation systems need only understand the basic SSML language and do not need specialist speech synthesis knowledge. Introduction Speech Synthesis Markup Language (SSML) is an XML-based markup language for speech synthesis applications. SSML directs all Text Analysis steps, providing a standard way to control aspects of speech such as pronunciation, acronym expansion, volume, pitch, rate, range, duration, pause, emphasis, etc., across different synthesis-capable platforms.
