Volcanic Events In The 20th Century
The intent of the writer was to inform through tabulated data, the quantified human impact of volcanic eruptions for the 20th century. This study sought to determine the nature of the volcanic events in addition to the number of individuals who were affected through death, evacuations, homelessness and injury by these events. This information is relevant to my research question as it provides numerical data on how one facet of society, its people, has been affected by volcanic eruptions. It is suggested that overall death and escape are the most common human impacts of volcanic events with 53% of the events resulting in death rather than any other consequence. However, overall individuals were mainly impacted through evacuation. This research
was intended for organizations that are involved with risk management.
