After a thirty-minute ride, I had arrived. I walked into the building nervous about volunteering. I started off by wrapping bread loaves, bagels, and donuts in plastic wrap for the homeless to take with them once they left. After successfully accomplishing that task, I proceeded to give out plates of eggs, pancakes, sausage, and pumpkin soup out. It was then that I looked over at the next table over and noticed the strange woman sitting at the extremity of the table.

It was like something out of a book. Out of everything in the world, she had asked for a picture, something so precious that the woman carries it with her everywhere. It was then that I realized how volunteering and helping others can impact the person I help. It might be something insignificant, but it CAN make a difference. The people I help will cherish that moment and appreciate the act.
To this day, I still do not know that woman's name. Maybe if I did it would take the whole mystery out of the occasion and not have deeply impacted me as it still does now. Maybe I would have forgotten this whole ordeal and lived my life in ignorance. But the truth is, I cannot forget that moment in my life.
