Confession: Encounter with Christ in Penance
During the sacrament of confession Von Speyr speaks about how one should prepare to confess and the process of the inner self reflection. The process of confession and different phases we encounter during and before the act of confession are profound. Von Speyr demonstrates that there is a great insightful meaning that goes into confessing. If one is not able to experience humiliation throughout the whole sacrament, then we are not properly confessing, and we are causing further harm on God. The world of the humans and the divine are separated by sin. To sin one must understand that you are not inflicting pain on yourself, both physically and mentally, but that …show more content…
To start the process of confession, one must be able to recognize our sins as solely as our own. This includes seeing the gravity of each sin we commit and reflecting on it. The preparation includes understanding beforehand, the sacrament, holy bible and constantly becoming active in the church. In a way, confession is being able to accept all sins we have caused and see who we are, our identity, and our purpose here on earth through the process of confession. The confessor represents the son. Therefore, the Son must be presented in a matter of a pure, honest and humble individual. During confession we should feel fear for what is to come and made in a way to humiliate oneself. If one feels humiliation when confessing we are doing it properly because we should feel humility for the sins we have caused and the pain we have inflicted on God. When expressing our sins we should not look at the circumstances of the sin. Instead recognize which is a sin. The gravity of the sin depends on how often we commit the sin and how God views each sin. Those who still need to confess are not guaranteed the full extent of love from god but they are still able to receive grace if there is a sort of
