Community Service for the Elderly
Waco is situated beside the Brazo River and I-35 between Dallas and Austin. Waco was an up and coming town raising in population and businesses until the devastating tornados hit. On May 11, 1953 a record tornado hit, killing 114 people, Injuring 600, more than 600 business and home were demolished. The Tornado left damages estimating at $41 million dollars. This is known to be the deadliest tornado in Texas history and the tenth deadliest in the nation. The town was slow to recover. When I first moved there I heard a lot of stories of how this small town would have been as big if not bigger than Dallas if the tornado did not hit. Ridding through Waco, one thing is apparent, it is an old town with old homes

This program is open to both those interested in building a new home or purchasing an existing home” Retrieved from http://www.waco-texas.com/housing-new-structure.asp. Again, this is a great program Waco has set up for people that may have never had a chance to own a home. As you can tell this is not specifically for seniors. The elderly in Waco have worked in the community and spend their money in the community. They don't want a new home, most have raised their children, grand children and some great grandchildren in these homes. Also a lot of these houses are paid off so, it makes no sense to leave them behind when you have able bodied men and women to help with the cosmetics of the …show more content…
When you are charged and convicted of a crime, you have to pay court cost, bail, fines/fee and, if placed on probation that is another cost. For example, “The article follows a woman who was arrested for drunk driving, her first offense of any kind, and whose life entered a very expensive spiral, including the loss of two jobs and having to pay almost $4,000 in fees, fines, and court costs and $2,000 to post bail” Retrieved from http://www.prisonpolicy.org. When you are commanded to do community service you have to pay another fee when each time you go. With all these fees, especially the community service fee, there should be enough money to buy simple materials.
My proposal is simple, I want to help our grandmother, grandfathers, old school teachers and librarian. Some of them are veterans or widows of veterans that has given their taxes, time, energy to this community. When now turn our back on them, Why not at least explore the options to do basic cosmetic rehab to the elderly homes in

The building has the capacity to have many different activities and serve more seniors with the current staff. This allows multiple activities to take place at the same time, for example, seminars and workshops in one area, card games and puzzles in another and exercise in yet another. The Site Manager and the volunteers could effectively continue to serve if more seniors used the center without an increase in the cost of staffing. Seniors having a place to come and socialize and helps maintain independence is a strength of the center. One study noted that “compared to home care users who had not previously used senior centers, previous senior center users do have lower levels of IADL, and ADL impairment”CITATION Mil04 \p 21 \l 1033 (Miltiades, Grove, & Drenovsky, 2004, p.…

The industry in providing the older generation housing is constantly growing because of the increased lifespan of this population. As the Baby Boomers enter the retirement age, the older generation population is in need of a huge market of companies similar to Urban Innovations, which will provide these service-oriented products. Senior Care Marketer noted (as cited in FAQ, n,d.) “The senior care industry is booming and it’s just getting started as the baby boom generation cares for their aging parents and require care themselves as they transition into their own senior years. People sixty-five years and older represent the fastest-growing age group in the United States, and it is projected that the 75+ population will increase 70% by 2025.…

There will be four transitional two-bedroom units for homeless families. The families will be permitted to stay there for two years. The Building still needs renovated to meet disability needs and an elevator tower installed. Construction could begin on this project as early as November. The cost of housing is the second most common cause of homelessness among the elderly. It is hard to find affordable housing in many areas, especially in busy cities. The cost of a one bedroom apartment in Washington D.C. was $1,134 (NLIHC, 2007). Many of the elderly have a hard time paying for housing because SSI will only pay housing if the cost is thirty percent of their SSI benefit. Many of the elderly who are having issues paying for the cost of housing can apply for section 8 vouchers, but there is an ironic twist to this option. In order to receive section 8 vouchers to avoid homelessness, the person applying has to already be homeless. Once the person is homeless, it will be very difficult to apply for section 8 because they don’t have a permanent address or a way to keep in contact with any agencies.…
