I would like to start off by saying that when I started highschool, I hated it. 6 am is too early to be waking up to school, especially for teenagers who are not only growing, but also participating in extracurricular activities and working jobs. 3 more years of high school after 9th grade seemed grating and almost unattainable; how could I possibly go through another 3 years of bullies, social hierarchies, and meaningless drama all the while waking up before the sun? Well, there aren't many options for people without high school diplomas, I only saw 2: live fast and die you or maxing out at 35k for the rest of your life. No thanks. I also kept in mind that I needed a higher education to work my desired job. Really, I had 4 rules governing my life: Maintain at least a B average, don’t do addictive drugs, finish what I start, and always keep my goal in mind. I developed these set of rules when I began 9th grade and realized that I was the only one responsible for my actions and grades. Today, these rules haven’t changed. As far as where I learned them, there's no specific place, they just made sense. Maybe I view high school like this because I lost most of my friends early on and was late making new ones here. Moving, paired with 9th grade year jaded my view of high school. 10th and 11th grade year was pretty boring, just a blur of schoolwork, dragging days, and occasional fights. I did learn an important lesson throughout those years however. My parents always said pick and choose your friends wisely. Those words were cemented when I watched as people who hung around bad influences began to drop
