Wal-Mart has preferred and common stock options. In 2010 there were no outstanding shares of preferred stock. Also, there were 378 million outstanding shares of common stock in 2010.…
The compensation package achieved Sunbeam’s goals of maximizing shareholders wealth. It motivated Dunlap to drive up the price of the stock. Although the short term profits benefited shareholders, no incentives to create a long term, profitable company existed. In fact, it gave Dunlap an even bigger incentive to sell the company once the stock price reached a high, favorable value. Dunlap’s compensation package consisted of little to no risk and had a ten year term. The restricted stock rewards became vested in two years. His purchase of 244,898 shares indicated that profits would drastically increase. Dunlap’s compensation package affected thousands of employees at Sunbeam. The compensation package favored shareholders but disfavored employees. They had no value in this model. The compensation package only protected shareholders wealth. The structure of Dunlap’s compensation package was aligned his views of shareholder primacy. He sacrificed values for a boost in stock price and economic efficiency. The stockholders of Sunbeam greatly profited, and Dunlap reaped a majority of the benefits. The compensation package should relate to performance in order to produce the right incentives. The compensation package provided Dunlap with an excessive amount of shares of stock and stock rewards, but at least it provided an…
This is a common method used by corporations to compensate executives. The presumption is that executives will work harder since they want their own stock to rise in value and, therefore, have the best interests of shareholders in mind. Employees with stock options need to know whether their stock is vested. This means the stock will retain its full value even if they are no longer employed with that company.…
Megan McArdle, the author of Walmart's Wage Experiment Works... for Workers, compares wage increases with different workforces at Walmart stores. McArdle provides the reader with ideas and questions like, "What happens if different stores did this?" and other questions relating to the effort needed to continue production if Walmart increased or the number of employees needed to fill the new workplaces. Claims like, "Paying higher wages has allowed Walmart to attract better workers, resulting in cleaner, nicer stores." Throughout the article, McArdle compares Costco's way of work with Walmart's and concludes that people living/working in rural(ish) areas generally make less money and have less workers, so "up"ing the wages would help those less…

In this article it said “he average wage for an hourly Wal-Mart employee in the United States $12.40 per hour.”(Gerhardt, Hollenbeck, Noe, & Wright, 2009) I’ve spoken to many Wal-Mart employees and know that Wal-Mart only pays its employees barely more than minimum wage. I looked up the U.S Department of Labor “The federal minimum wage for covered nonexempt employees is $7.25 per hour effective July 24, 2009.”(USDL 2014) and states can actually make up their own wages and…

Pat works in the men’s clothing section of a well-known department store. He has been in that position for more than 20 years, and his hourly wage is $11.25 per hour. Across town, Lucy is working in another highly successful retail chain and earns slightly less, around $10.75 per hour. She will make $19,000 a year, calculated over an average working week. Pat will make over $90,000. Pat works at Nordstrom, Lucy is from Walmart, and both are employed at successful companies that offer vastly different compensation and benefits. What is the impact of these differing compensation policies on employee behaviours, and what link (if any) is there to each company’s organisational performance?…

People are always looking for a good scare or thriller. There are many stories and poems to choose from. However, the two stories that really stand out to the average reader are “The Open Window”, by Saki, and “The Cask of Amontillado”, by Edgar Allan Poe. Both stories offer unique characters, sophisticated plots and colorful imagery as well as contrasting narrators. “The Open Window” offers fast reading while “The Cask of Amontillado” offers slow but in-depth reading. These qualities will vastly improve the examinations of the two stories’ differences and similarities.…
Incentive Pay is an important compensation that keeps employees wanting to perform to the best of their abilities for the company. Getting paid for specific performance results is probably in my opinion one of the reasons I would stay with a company. If I feel I am doing above and beyond what is asked of me and the company is receiving revenue based on my performance, I feel I should receive incentive pay.…

To contrast the Customer Benefit Package of Wal-Mart against Michael Kors for purchasing a suit or a new formal dress, there are many contributing factors. People look for different benefits from the service and products to satisfy what they are looking for. Wal-Mart compared to Michael Kors has a lot of contrasting factors both in goods and services provided. The biggest factors between the two that I see would be price, quality (value) and selection.…
The Wal-Mart cost structure is known to be the lowest in the retail industry. Many economists do not agree with this structure because although consumers are happy with low prices Wal-Mart has forced its suppliers and competitors small and big to lower their prices in order for them to maintain the image and reputation of having the lowest prices around for quality products. Many cities and neighborhoods have banned Wal-Mart due to the fear of small businesses being run out of business sue to not being able to compete with a giant like Wal-Mart.…
