Walter Mitty Research Paper

From reading the book, “Secret Life of Walter Mitty” and watching the movie, it is made clear that Walter Mitty is not just any ordinary man. In both the short story and the movie, it seems Walter Mitty is completely lost. Mitty has trouble focusing on what is in front of him, instead he daydreams about an exciting life, that he does not have. The book and movie both show how Mitty has relationship issues, how his daily routine is absolutely boring and how he daydreams about the exciting life he actually wants. In the short story, Mitty has trouble dealing with his nagging wife, she makes his life hell by making him daydream life threatening things. In the reading, it is very obvious that Mitty wife is very demanding, for example his wife says,“‘Not so Fast! You’re driving too fast!’’ Mitty has to do exactly what is wife tells him or she yells at him, making his life very miserable. Mitty has a daily routine and it is not exciting. Mitty most exciting thing he does is going to town. It is obvious why Mitty daydreams a more exciting lifestyle. In the movie, Mitty does not have a wife, he has a secret crush on a women he works with.. Walter is afraid to talk to her because she wants a adventurous, brave and creative man. Obviously Mitty is not any of these traits. Just like in the book, Mitty’s life is boring. Mitty starts daydreaming of the traits his crush wants in a man. Walter’s first daydream in the movie is him jumping through a burning building window, saves many people and also saves cheryl dog. This daydream shows how brave Mitty wants to be.
