Sweedens Swamp is a functioning red maple swamp which provides wildlife habitat for a variety of birds, mammals, and amphibians, and provides flood storage capacity, groundwater discharge and water purification. Pyramid 's proposed shopping mall will result in the destruction of approximately 45 out of 49 acres of this wetland. Thirty two acres would be permanently destroyed. Filling Sweedens Swamp would be the largest authorized wetland loss in Massachusetts in at least 5 years. Pyramid has offered to recreate other wetlands on the site. Doing so would result in the at least temporary destruction of 13 of the remaining 17 acres of wetland habitat. However, the mall proposed by Pyramid would provide many jobs to the area and provide tax revenues, making the area potentially more economically stable. Still wetland losses may not be necessary in order to have a quality regional shopping mall.…
Come on everyone it is time to go canoeing. Everyone gets in their canoes at the lake and the camp counselor says be careful not to fall into Canoe Lake. All of a sudden the canoe flips over and I have fallen into the lake and cut my foot open on the bottom of the lake stepping on a broken bottle. The camp counselor rushes me to the camp nurse who is now dressing my wound and explaining to me that I am at risk for infection because of exposure to bacteria, parasites, and fungi. What do I do now?…
The dam covers a 75 km squared area, making it four times larger than Sydney Harbour. Everyday it provides water for 3.7 million people but with Sydney’s population growing water management is becoming for important. Aims and Hypothesis The aim of the study was to investigate how the Ascham communities uses water and their awareness and knowledge surrounding Sydney’s water supply and Warragamba Dam. It was hypothesised that the Ascham…
According to National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) the chinook salmon feed off of amphipods, insects, barnacles, or any other type of crustacean in the young adult age group. Terrestrial organisms can also be absorbed into the digestive system. Adult chinook often times consume smaller fish to fulfill their diet. These chinook fish have a blue-green color located on the dorsal, and a large black spot on the node of the tail that appears at an older age. The average size for the chinook ranges anywhere from forty pounds to one hundred and twenty pounds. In order for the salmon’s population to grow they locate back to their birth place to reproduce. Once the spawning life cycle has occurred the fish will then die off. Recently there has been an epidemic about the Tacoma hydroelectric dam and how it has been putting the chinooks life in jeopardy. By terminating the hydroelectric dam, it will increase the number of fish ranging through the mouth of Washington Pacific Ocean upstream (NOAA, 2015).…
WYP Ngo did not join in with the team discussion until later on, due to keeping the kids occupied while the adults were having a conversation. WYP Ngo gathered some information from the kids. The youth got an X-Box hard drive (the youth is playing games), the girls got Ipads, and they was able to spend time with extended relatives during winter break. The family got a donation of 3 computers. WYP Ngo will assist with setting the computers up. The youth had a half day at school, because he had dyed his hair (against school rules for boys to have dyed hair). The kids are doing better with their chores. The next one on one will be on January 19th, 2017. The next FTM will be on February 15th, 2017.…

Yuma Arizona has been changed greatly by irrigation. The colorado river has been the main source of irrigation in Yuma and without it the irrigation and agriculture would be completely different. Before yuma was dammed off and tamed, the Colorado river was a huge river that was way bigger than it is now in the present day. Due to the great water sources and resources that yuma naturally has to offer it is perfect land to farm on. “However floods prevented any consistent farming of the land.” Something had to be done about the river constantly flooding and keeping the land from being farmed. “The inexperience of farmers caused some problems early on. Some of the less knowledgeable farmers used excessive water. This led to seepage bringing alkali to the surface. Rodents, especially rats and gophers endangered project canals…

This documentary is narrated by a man named Ben Knight. He is a directed and cinematographer for many film. This film is about the importance and consequences in which dams will provide. Dams are very expensive, take years to build and they are also can be very deadly during the construction phase. However, the cost of removing a dam is just as expensive for tax payers and city legislatures. Dams do provide hydropower energy to generate mills and also provide water storage. Two of the most common dam are: Hoover Dam in Arizona and Grand Coulee Dam in Washington. The Elwha Dam is located in Washington and is the home of the Elwha River. Salmon habitats are a pride and joy in the Elwha River but in 1910 when construction began the habitats were destroyed.…
The once untamed Colorado River was set to be cultivated in 1931 by the Bureau of Reclamation. It was to be tamed by the Hoover Dam, the biggest man made thing in the whole world. The place of this great achievement was in between two hulking masses of sedimentary rock at Black Canyon, Nevada. The dam intentionally had its purposes, for example its production would supply jobs in the time of the Great Depression. As well as, curb the rapid floods that frequently deluded Southern California(?). Then in return the Dam would reply with a clean source of electricity to neighboring states as well as distribute water. Though, some unanticipated effects the Dam caused are still marked vaguely into the canyon years later. Despite that, the Hoover…
The Tasmanian government planned to build a dam on the Franklin River flooding 800 000 hectares of land. This proposal sparked extensive protests all over Australia. Bob Brown and thousands of other protesters blockaded the construction site on the Franklin, resulting in 1500 arrests including Bob Brown 's. Despite this the campaign continued to stop the Franklin River Dam construction and in 1982 the area was placed on the World Heritage List. The Hawke government (federal) was on the side of the conservationists and a large debate between the Hawke government and the Tasmanian government on the dam resulted in a Hawke Victory. The overruling of the federal government over state was allowed due to its signing of the World Heritage Organisation. The dam was never built, a large victory for Bob Brown and people alike. On Bob 's release from prison he was elected into Tasmanian State government due to his work with the Tasmanian Wilderness…
Water is essential for life; it is an indispensable resource for the economy. Not only we human use it every day to survive, but every living organism needs it to live. Water is becoming a hot topic around the globe because of water waste and water pollution. A few states and cities are also having water wars. There are many states and cities with many issues of these water wars, but the issues with the tri-state water wars between Georgia, Alabama, and Florida caught my attention. For a long times, Georgia, Alabama and Florida has been fighting over the future supply of water from the Apalachicola Chattahoochee Flint (ACF) river basin and the Alabama Coosa Tallapoosa (ACT) River Basin. It is a battle between the population of Atlanta, the ecological interests of Florida, and the municipal, industrial, and power uses of Alabama. Each state has its own interest and issues about the suitable distribution of water.…
