Douglas in the article shows slavery as leaves on a tree being plucked down to the branch. He shows how slaves work down to the bone only to barley survive enough to do more work the next day. He shows how if they wouldn’t find a peaceful way to release the hold of slavery their would be rebellions. He wants the government to let African Americans to have the same and equal rights as a white man. This would be fair to the White and African Americans.
When Douglas wrote to Lincoln his letters only demands were to be recognized as a human just the
everyday white men. His demands were fair and just not wanting anything more than the normal citizen. He also showed respect for the President not criticizing his job as a president. He shows how some people are taken away from families and parents forced to work for no pay. How could this be unfair?
Douglas went to the president with demands of becoming free and equal. He wanted to be seen as an everyday man, not a slave. His demands weren’t unjust or unfair. His letter was to just be a free man.
