The question is was Islam ever progressed and was it the reason behind the western development? We all know that the Islamic civilization had a huge contribution towards modern science but as mentioned by al Afghani the Christian society is more progressed than the Muslim society and that was not always the case. Now that we know the reason behind the lack of civilization and the decline of progress in Islamic society in this age we will discuss Abdu's point about Islam being the reason behind the western development and incline in their progress, he stated that after the invasion of the Muslim countries by the west, they went back to their lands and changed their dogma and made it similar to the Islamic principals because the Islamic religion didn't have any conflict with science and it is also evident that religious motivations led to the creation of new sciences. The problem arises in knowing the importance and nature of the science and from were it originated in a book by Saliba he states that it was thought that the Islamic religion developed their science and reached the golden age by translating Greek narrative to Arabic and it was generally assumed that the Islamic civilization didn't go beyond these translations and that they haven't produced knowledge of their own. …show more content…
In the book Saliba argues that point, and supports that the roots of science and progress are from the Muslims. He criticizes the argument by stating that none of the proposed methods of translation are convincing to explain the reasons behind Muslims acquiring Greek science, and he also states that the nature and quality of translations show sophistication that can only be done by Muslim scientists and translators can't do it.
